Malcolm O. and Edith J. (Ranney) Bland

Edith Josephine Ranney was born March 17, 1880 in Ames Kansas to Joel Cyrus Ranney and Nellie Powell - she married Malcolm Oron Bland.
(Joel is divorced in 1900 Cloud County, born Feb 1848 in Ohio. His sister Emily R. Clark January 1835 in Ohio is with them.
Joel C. Ranney is in Cloud County, Kansas in 1910, 62 born in Ohio, widowed. His sister Emily R. Clark 75 born in Ohio is with him.

September 1912 "Joe Ranney spent Friday at Hollis visiting his daughter, Mrs. John Miller, returning home Saturday."

June 2, 1904 Concordia " Born, to Mr. and Mrs Malcolm Bland, a daughter."

April 3, 1908 "On a recent trip to Concordia, Kansas, M. O. Bland took with him several ears of the white corn which won the premium at the Stock Fair in Denver last fall and the farmers there failed to show him any corn as good as it. One man Mr. Bland met said he formerly owned 320 acres of land out here and during dry years he let it go for almost nothing for which he is now very sorry."

September 4, 1908 "O. M. Bland and wife, north of town, are in Eastern Kansas, they being called there last week, by the serious illness of his father of Mr. B1and."
(This is James Otis Daniel Bland, born April 7, 1824 in Greene County, Indiana, and died in Cloud COUnty September 2, 1908. He had six children by Sarah Elrod who died September 1, 1859, and ten children by Mary Gentry.)
# 40654532. A 1907 affidavit said "only Catherine was alive of his six children with Sarah, and of Mary's dchildren, five were living. Sarah Ann, Daniel E., John H. , Cordelia, and Malcolm O."


Malcolm's mother is buried in Cloud County

February 5, 1909 Wray Gazette
" The infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Malcomb Bland died suddenly Monday night and was buried Wednesday afternoon. Funeral services were held at the house conducted by the Christian minister."
Rattler "The babe of Mr. and Mrs. M. O. Bland died the first of the week and was buried Wednesday afternoon at Grandview. Services were conducted at the house by Rev. Walthall."

November 19, 1909 "Malcolm Bland went to McCook Tuesday, where he expects to work the coming winter."

In 1910 Yuma County, Markham O. Bland and Edith J. are both 29, farming with Margery 8, Rachel 5, and Joseph 3.

August 12, 1913 Concordia "Mrs. Edith Ranney Bland and children arrived from Wray, Colo., today to attend the funeral of Mrs. Bland's aunt, Mrs. Clark, at Ames."

Malcolm proved up land in 2N 42W and 2N 43W in 1916.

October 4, 1917 Wray
"Edith Josephine Ranney was born at Kanorado, Kansas, March 17, 1881, and died October 2, 1917, at 7:00 p. m. at the age of 36 years, 5 months and 15 days. She was married to Malcom O. Bland on August 19, 1900. The young couple then moved to Wray, Colorado, where they have resided ever since. Eight children were born to this couple of whom seven are living. In addition to her husband and children she is survived by her husband and mother, a half brother, Ray Barker, of Arapahoe, Nebraska, and two sisters, Mrs. Blanche Miller, of Ames, Kansas and Mrs. Helen Zeigler, of Dubois, Pennsylvania. Mrs. Bland united with the United Brethren Church at Concordia at the age of 18 and was active in church work. Her membership was transferred to the First Presbyterian church at Wray on the 19th day of April, 1916.
The bereaved family has the heart felt sympathy of the entire community."

November 1, 1917 "Three of M. O. Bland's children have left school to go with the family to Denver."

November 22, 1917 "Mrs. Nellie Anderson, who was called here a short time ago by the death of her daughter, Mrs. M. O. Bland, left yesterday morning for her home in Norton, Kansas."

Malcolm registered for WWI in Denver, born July 2, 1882, living on Downing Avenue, with Marjorie Bland and six other children as his relatives.

He's an express trucker in Denver in 1920, 37, with Marjory 18, Rachael 15, and Joseph 12. Widowed Belle Harmon 38 born in Wisconsin is a housekeeper.

James Bland is in the Colorado State Industrial School in Golden, Colorado in 920, age 10.
(James likely was named after grandfather James O. D. Bland who served as a corporal in A., 115th Indiana Infantry and a private in C, 156th Indiana Volunteer Infantry.)

In 1930 Malcolm 47 and Belle 46 Bland are in Reno County, Kansas.

In 1940 Malcolm is a road construction laborer in Arapahoe County, Colorado, 58, with Anabel 57 born iN Wisconsin.

Anabel Bland, born Dec 21, 1882, died January 1973.
One tree said Malcolm died in Denver on May 1, 1976.

Marjorie Mary Bland was born at Concordia, Kansas December 23, 1901, name Hurley in Sterling Colorado in 1930, as Bradshaw in 1978.
In 1940 Kern County, California, Arthur A. Hurley 49 born in South Dakota, with Marjorie 38 Kansas, have Arthur Jr. 16 born in Colorado and Patricia 11 in Kansas.
Marjorie died as Bradshaw.
"A memorial service will be held Friday, February 18th, at 11:00 a.m., at Bakersfield Family Funeral Directors, 701 34th Street, for Marjorie Hurley Bradshaw, 103, who passed away February 13, 2005, in Bakersfield.
Marjorie was born to Malcolm and Edith Bland, in Concordia, Kansas, December 23, 1901, the oldest of seven children. When her mother died in 1917, Marjorie dropped out of high school to help her father with the care and support of the younger children. One of her proudest moments later in life was when she completed the requirements for her high school diploma and graduated with the Kern County Adult Education Class of 1998, at the age of 96.
Marjorie was a devout Christian, and after retirement she became a par 3 golfer and avid bingo player. She was primarily a loving mother and grandmother and good friend to many.
She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Cantrell (Ted); grandsons, Brian Elliott (Nancy), Pete Hurley (Criss), David Cantrell (Deann); granddaughter, Diane Parker, Karen Swogger (Robin), Cynthia Hurley (Jerry Heap), Suzanne Bruno (Paul), Cherie Martin (Ollie), Michelle Urpsis (Alan); granddaughter-in-law, Mary Joan Hurley; son-in-law, Donald Parker; step-grandchildren, Linda Spartz (Philip) and Steven Castro(Peggy). There are also 31 great-grandchildren and 30 great-great-grandchildren, many of whom remember her as a loving Granny who stepped in when needed in their early years."

April 3, 1940 "LOS ANGELES, April 2
When James O. Bland, twenty-five, went to court today the case was in the bag. Bland pretended at a cafe to be gripping a pistol and told the waitress to give him the money. She handed him $18, and then pushed him. Bland fell into a laundry bag held by a worker who swiftly tied the top together and called police. "

He might be the James O. Bland in Will County, Illinois in 1940, 30, born in Colorado, married, an inmate.

1949 Bakersfield, California " James O. Bland, 28-year-old taxicab driver, will appear in the Police Court today on charges of failing to register as a former convict. Police say Bland has been living in the city since 1945 and has not reported to the department. Bland allegedly served a term in Illinois state prison in Joliet, Illinois, on a manslaughter count, the police report said."

James O. Daniel Bland 1910-1985 is buried in Altadena, California, # 184187079

Rachel is in Fort Collins, Colorado in 1930, 25, married to Barton L. Daigle 29 born in Colorado. They have Lawrence 8, Dannie F. 6, Walter J. 4, Malcolm L. 3, Ramona R. 1, and Gailon L. eight months old., all kids born in Colorado.

Nellie 1904-1982 is buried in Denver # 90830445.
"Nellie Rachel Bland was born May 30 1904 in Concordia, Cloud County, Kansas. She married Barton Daigle and to this union seven sons and one daughter was born. After Barton's death, on June 24 1945, Nellie married Mike Murin. Nellie passed away October 13 1982 in Denver. She was preceded in death by her first husband Barton Daigle, her second husband Mike Murin and her daughter Ramona. Funeral services were held Friday, October 15 1982 at the Olinger Drawing Room, 29th and Wadsworth in Denver at 12:00 Noon. The Reverend Eugene Mingus of the Heritage Church of The Nazarene officiated. Music was provided by The Olinger Male Quartet. Interment is at Fairmount Cemetery in Denver, where she lay next to her husband."


Joe M. Bland married Rose Vondra on Feb 3, 1939 in Denver.

In 1940 he's in Denver, 32, running a lunch counter in a drug store, now married to Rose M. 29 born in Nebraska. She was in Omaha in 1935, he was in Chicago. They have Rosalie , seven months old.

1960 "Nineteen-year-old John Bland of Greybull, Wyoming, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Bland, died Tuesday of injuries received in a acar accident near the North Sixth Srteet bridge Sunday night. Another youth, Bradford D. Cahpman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Chapman of Basin, is in critial condition as a result of the tragic wreck."
