" Funeral services for Orpha A. Van Matre were held Oct. 28 at the Mason City Methodist church.
The Rev Gail Dunning of the Litchfield Christian church officiated, assisted by the Rev. Alice Elison of the Mason City Methodist church.
Burial was in the Mason City cemetery.
Orpha A. Van Matre died Oct. 24, 1951 at the Soldiers and Sailors Home at Grand Island. He served with the army in the Spanish-American War from May 1898 until May 1900. Born at New Haven, W. Va. on March 8, 1869, he came to Nebraska at the age of 17 years.
He married Miss Addie Temple in 1900. The couple had one son, Francis, now of Mason City.
In 1926 he married Isabelle Mason. To this union three children were born: Edward of Mason City, Willis, now serving in the air force, and Mrs. Keith Cook, also of Mason City.
He became a member of the United Brethren church in 1912. Survivors include three sons, one daughter, five brothers, one sister, five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren."

Laurenia Elizabeth Van Matre Cook, 61, of Overton, died Monday, Dec. 13, 1993 at the Tri-County Hospital in Lexington.
Laurenia was born in the Cumro District of Custer County, just Southwest of Mason City. She grew to womanhood in the Mason City and Litchfield areas. She married Keith James Cook on Nov. 7, 1948.
She followed her husband throughout his Navy career She was a good housewife and mother.
She is survived by her husband Keith James of Overton; one son and his wife, Keith Jesse and Cindy Lyn Cooh of Overton; one daughter and husband, Lowenn and Bernard Van Matre of Millinton, Tenn.; two brothers and seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Joyce.
Services will be held Thursday, Dec. 16, 1993 at 2:00 at the Reynold-Love Chapel in Lexington with Rev. Tom Reynolds officiating. Burial will be in the Litchfield Cemetery at Litchfield. "
