Brush, Colorado "DIED - January 5th,1901, at 4 p.m. of paralysis of the heart, Josiah Lee, aged 57 years, 3 months and 23 days. The deceased was born in Indiana in 1843. He came to Colorado from Hastings, Neb., about 13 years ago. He was married 34 years ago last April to Miss Rosaline Devore. He served in the War of the Rebellion in Company A, 40th Regiment Iowa Vol., and was a member of the Yuma Post of the G. A. R..
He leaves a widow and three children - Mrs. Schultz, of Fairfield, Neb.; Mrs. Philo McSween, of Brush and a son, of St. Joseph, Mo, to mourn his loss. About two weeks before his death he went about three miles from town to nurse a small-pox patient. The sick man had recovered, and both he and Mr. Lee were preparing to return to Brush when the deceased was suddenly seized with sickness and expired in a few moments. The suddenness of the call was a severe shock to his friends and to the entire community. Brief services were held at his late residence on Monday afternoon, and the body was laid to rest in the cemetery by members of the Fort Morgan Post of the G. A. R. with the beautiful service of their ritual.
Mr. Lee was a good citizen and a kind and obliging neighbor. The family and relatives have the warm sympathy of many friends in their bereavement."

In October 1904 Brush, the Presbyterian Church Ladies Aid sold tickets for people to attend different homes representing countries.




November 1900 "Yesterday morning, at 10 o'clock, occurred the marriage of Miss Christina Alma, the charmlng young daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Lee, to William Ernest Omen, at the home of the bride's parents. The marriage ceremony, which was witnessed by near relatives and a few of their intimate friends, was performed by Rev. Witheruee, of the Methodist church.
After the newlymarried couple had received the congratulations of the guests, a most delicious wedding feast was spread. Thu young couple are well known in this vicinity. The bride is an accomplished young lady and has many friends in society and church circles. Mr. Ureun has been a resident of this city for some time and is a young man who is well known for his honesty, good character and excellent business ability, and his many friends join this paper in wishing him and his happy bride a prolonged wedded life of prosperity and happiness."

March 1903 "Mrs. T. J. Lee, who has lately returned from a visit in Iowa, has been quite sick, but is now improving. Her sons Clem and Earl are also getting over an attack of la grippe.."

June 1903 "A telegraph message came to Mr. and Mrs. P. M. Harrison of Liberty township Tuesday notifying them that their son, Robert, who had been in Wyoming for some months, had met death by drowning. No particulars were given. Robert was their oldest son. He enlisted ih the 60th Iowa during the Spanish war. It will be remembered that the regiment did not get to Cuba, was turned back while in the south by the close of the war. The deceased was a bright, promising young man, with a great ambition to win distinction in the army. In his earliest boyhood he studied military tactics and afterwards took military training in a college. His death is a great misfortune to his relatives and friends. Mr. Robert Harrison is a cousin of Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Lee of this place."

"Thomas Lee, an old and respected resident of Brush, died at his home in Brush Tuesday. Mr. Lee, who was 65 years of age, had been an invalid for some years, but for the past year had failed rapidly. The deceased leaves a wife, a daughter, Mrs. C. W. Goddard, Clem Lee, deputy county assessor, and another son who is now in the army. During the many years Mr. Lee has been a resident of Brush he has made many friends. In spite of his ill health and suffering he always had a cheery smile for those who knew him and was always cheerful and optimistic as to the future. The funeral services were held Wednesday and were largely attended."

September 1924 "Mrs. Wm. Floyd, of this city, recevied the sad news of the death of her grandson, Mr. Bertie Roberts, 28 years old, at his home in Chariton, lowa, last Saturday, September 20. The young man had suffered several weeks with an abcess on his cheek where blood-poisoning set in, resulting in his death. Mrs. Floyd was unable to attend the funeral, which was held on the following Monday, but her daughter and son, Mrs. C. W. Goddard and Clem S. Lee, both of Ft. Morgan left Saturday afternoon for Chariton to be present at the funeral.
Bertie Roberts was the son of Mrs. Floyd's eldest daughter, who lives in Chariton. Friends extend sympathy to Mrs. Floyd in her sad bereavement."

ARABELLE

Married, Sunday, Nov. 3rd, at the Presbyterian parsonage, Fort Morgan, by Rev. Crothers, at 2:30 p. m., Miss Arabella Lee and Colonel Goddard, both of Brush. Colonel and his happy bride stole a march on all their friends and slipped up to Fort Morgan and were quietly married. Colonel going to Sterling that evening and Mrs. Goddard remaining at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Lee. But the important secret leaked out some way and the young couple are now busy receiving congratulations.
Colonel Goddard is the son of Mr. and Mrs. S. W. Goddard, who have been residents of Brush since 1906, and very honored citizens are they. Colonel has a host of friends in Brush and Sterling, who will extend congratulations.
His chosen bride is the handsome daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Lee, and having been a resident of Brush for a number of years, is well known through this part of the county.
We understand that Mr. and Mrs. Goddard will make their home in Sterling, Mr. Goddard having assumed his duties as book-keeper for the Logan County Bank of thut city, Monday.
The Tribune wishes Mr. and Mrs. Goddard many happy and prosperous years throughout their wedded life."

"Mrs. Arnbelle Goddard, 41 years old, wife of Colonel W. Goddard, federal prohibition enforcement officer for northeastern Colorado, died at the Eben-Ezer hospital, at 0 o’clock Wednesday morning, March 6, 1928. Mrs. Goddard had been in failing health for several months. She underwent an operation at the hospital February 22, and altho the operation was critical, she had been improving. Reports from the hospital Tuesday evening were that her condition was more encouraging and news of her death Wednesday morning was a shock to her legion of friends in Brush and Fort Morgan.
Funeral services will be held at the Parker Funeral Home in Fort Morgan Friday aftrnoon at 2 o’clock. Burial will be mnde in Riverside cemetery.
Arabelle Lee was born at Lucas, Iowa. She came to Morgan county from Jamison, Iowa, with her parents 27 years ago and lived in Brush for many years. She became the bride of Colonel W. Goddard in Fort Morgan, 20 years ago last November 3. For three years Mr. and Mrs. Goddaard lived in Sterling and then removed to Brush. They have made their home in Fort Morgan for a number of years. Her mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Floyd, lives at 319 Clayton street. Clem S. and R. Earle Lee, brothers of the deceased, live in Fort Morgan. A sister, Mrs. Christina Green, lives at Pueblo, Colo., and a brother, Robert Lee, at Jamison, Iowa. A sister, Mrs. Ncomia Roberts, died at Chariton, lowa, about one year ago. Mrs. Goddard was well known to almost everyone in Morgan county and was admired and respected by everyone for her cheerful disposition and personality.
The Tribune joins the many friends in extending sympathy to this splendid family in this their bereavement." "

May 1956 "Mrs. Alice Alexander, 87, mother of a widely known Colorado state official and a Durango pioneer, died late Wednesday night to Denver. Mrs. Alexander, who lived ar Durango for 60 years, was the mother of Walter A. Alexander, chief administrator of the Colorado secretary of state's office, and Mrs. Ruby Goddard of Los Angeles. Also surviving is a brother, W. W. Belmear of Dolores, Colorado."

October 1924 "Clem Lee, the popular Morgan county assessor, was in Brush Wednesday looking after his political fences. Mr. Lee has made a very enviable record in the office which he is now filling and is a candidate for re-election. In a recent conversation with a gentleman who is competent to know and who comes i touch with all the assessors of the state, the Morgan county office is conducted in a splendid manner and is second to none in efficiency. Men who have made good in their respective offices should be maintained at this time."

June 1904 Brush " Last Monday while endeavoring to turn a cow out, of the town herd, the horse which Earl Lee was riding stumbled, and ns he was going at a rapid rate the rider was thrown quite a distance, as well as with considerable force, the result of the accident was a broken collar bone and a severe jarring up. Or. Turner was called and set the collar bone, and last reports are that Earl is doing nicely."

"Mrs. Grace G. Lee, a resident of the Brush community for 28 years, died Saturday morning at the Brush Community hospital where she had been for about five weeks.
Mrs. Lee was born May 27, 1904 in Milledgeville, Illinois. She was a member of the Rankin Presbyterian church and of the Eastern Star in Illinois. Besides her husband, R. Earl Lee, Mrs. Lee is survived by three daughters, Patricia, Nancy and Sharon, and one son. Thomas, all of Brush; four sisters, Mira Jeannette Goldthorpe of Wenatchee, Wash., Mrs. Muriel Jespernon of Phoenix, Ariz., Mrs. Bess Yingling of Chadwick, I11., and Mrs. Isabel Rogan of Koyouk, Alaska; one brother, Ralph Goldthorpe, and her father, Alvin G. Goldthorpe, both of Milledgevllle.
Funeral services were held Monday morning at 10 a.m. from the Frezieres Funeral home with Dr. A. G. Wallace officiating. Interment was In the Brush cemetery. Pallbearers were Isom Epperson. Dr. C. P. Lamb, F. L. Marshall, C. P. Christensen, Clarence Oldemeyer, and W. H. Bodley."
