July 24, 1925 Buena Vista, Colorado "A message from Espanoha, N. M.,
Tuesday evening, informed M. Poplin that her husbatnd, Grant Poplin, had died at that point,
rather suddenly, from being gassed , presumably by entering the mine in which he was working,
too soon utter the explosion of » charge of dynamite.
From the meager reports received here, it seems that he had come out of the mine when he
found that he was suffering from gas poisoning, and after getting some medicine,
he so far recovered that he felt able to go back to work, and it is believed that he
re-entered the mine too soon and death resulted.
Owing IO the isolated location of the mine, which is forty miles from communication,
detail information is hard to obtain and nothing definite can be learned until mall can be had
from the management of the mine.
Grant Poplin some years resided here, and was a very industrious young man,
with an excellent reputation. Shortly after his marriage to Miss Mahon, a daughter of
Mrs. Martha Mahon, he went to New Mexico, where he had resided for over twenty years.
Some two years ago the family returned to Buena Vista and have since made this city
their home, and Mr. Poplin coming up occasionally to visit with his family.
He was here about two months ago."
"Grant Poplin, brother-in-law of Mrs. Harry Morrison, Mrs. Fred Beauregard,
and Miss William Boguregardr, whose home is in Buena Vista, died in New Mexico
Sunday afternoon. He was fifty-two years old. Mr. Poplin was working on the
highway near Buena Vista until a few months ago, when he went to Now Mexico to do some
assessment work in a mine. Gas fumes arising while he was working in the mine,
caused his death.
His two older sons left last night to accompany the body to Buena Vista.
The funeral will be held at 2.30 Sunday afternoon from the Webb Undertaking Parlors.
His surviving relatives are a wife, and ten children, nine of whom still live at home
