Thomas Combs, 1N 45W
March 1890 Wray items in the Rocky Mountain News
"Mr. Thomas Combs and family, friends of Mr. Cruse, recently came in from Denver. "
Wesley Cruse had claimed land in the same township.
Thomas cash-claimed a quarter in 13, 1N 45W in 1892.
GOOD POSSIBILITY, because he would probably have cheap rail transportation,
1908 Denver "The funeral of Thomas Combs was held yesterday afternoon at the home
of his parents, 15 East Ninth street. The services were conducted by the
Rev. Charles Campbell. The floral tributes were many, coming from young friends
and the Western Union Telegraph company, by which he was employed as a messenger.
The following fellow employees of the Western Union acted as pall-bearers:
A. R. Jessup. Paul Goodwin. Robert Nessmith, David Eppstein,
Edward Stevens and Charles Lunsten."
May 1, 1919 "Confessing to the shooting of Jacob Mellingor,
proprietor of a store at Rush, Karl and Tom Combs, cousins, are in the county
jail at Colorado Springs, where they will face charges of deliberate murder.
The two men, attempting to rob the store, shot Mellinger through the back
and then tried to escape."
ANOTHER
Thomas Combs was one of the prominent settlers in Pitkin County.
July 1908 "Yesterday evening at 6:20 Thomas Combs, one of Aspen's most highly respected and pioneer citizens, passed away at the family residence. The cause if his death was apoplexy . Mr. Combs was born October 21 1851, and would have been 57 years old this fall. He and his family came to Aspen from Ohio about twenty-six Years ago and he was one of the incorporators of the town of Ashcroft. He leaves a widow and two daughters, Mrs. Harry A. Brown and Mrs. George Folsom. The many friends of the family throughout the city will sympathize with them sincerely in their bereavement."
