WILLIAM
December 1900 "Billy Boyd of Rawles township, planning to have a big public sale the last of
this month, having rented his farm to Mr. Gray of Tabor, for the coming year he expects to get
to -northwestern Kansas before long and raise range cattle. He has rented a ranch of 1,000
acres and already bought some cattle here.
This ranch joins that of his cousin James Boyd, who has been county assessor of Yuma county
for a number of years and comes near living in three states at once. For James
has a ranch containing 2,500 acres of land in a body and this land lies where the three states
corner so that part of it is ih Kansas, part in Nebraska, and the rest of it in Colorado."

his children to the same. He is greatly lamented
the family has sympathy of all.
Mr. Hiram Boyd died of consumption of the bowels,
on Thursday March 29, 1900 at his home southwest of town.
He was born in Van Buren county, Iowa, Oct. 17, 1847.
He came to Kansas in 1870. He was married Jan. 1st 1878
to Hannah M. Cash. To them were born six children
, five of whom are living. Mr. Boyd has been in failing
health for some time but was confined to his bed but a
short time. All that loving care and medical aid
could do were done, but without avail.
The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Thompson,
at Excelsior school house, on Friday afternoon.
The large crowd that attended the funeral was an evidence
of the esteem in which he was held by neighbors.
