DIED.
At Holyoke, January 20, of lung fever, J.O. Spaulding, in his 63d year.
He took a very severe cold which soon developed into lung fever.
J.O. Spaulding was one of the boys in blue, enlisting in an Iowa
regiment and serving during most of the war. He removed with his family,
from Iowa to Holyoke in the fall of 1888. He was a member of the
Christian church and took quite an active part in the church work.
It is only a few months since he follows the remains of his wife to the
cemetery. He leaves two small children a boy and a girl. One by one the
old soldiers are passing away and it is only when we see the grey haired
veterans following the remains of a comrade to the last resting place
that we realize the time that has passed since these boys came home from
the war.
The funeral services were conducted under the
management of the G.A.R. Post of which the deceased was a member. The
funeral sermon was preached by Rev. Moore at the M.E. church Thursday.
