IN MEMORIAM
Jacob Henry Millage was born
in Tioga County, New York August 20 1840 and died November 22, 1908 at
Holyoke, Colorado aged 68 years 3 months and 2 days.
At
Waterloo, Iowa, in 1864, he was united in marriage with Miss Carrie
Dickerson. To them were born eleven children, five of whom, four sons
and one daughter, survive them. His wife passed away May 8, 1897 at
Wakonda, South Dakota.
He married Mrs. Ida Shaw, May 31, 1898,
who survives him. They resided on their farm in South Dakota until 4
years ago last spring when they located in Phillips County. Since then
he has devoted his time to farming and stock raising on his ranch
southwest of town.
About a year and a half ago he was taken with
a cancer on his lip which he had removed but of no avail it reappeared
again. He has suffered intensely but borne his pain patiently having
undergone two severe operations. He is at rest after, as he said, “many
wear days.
The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Rulison
assisted by Rev. Jenkins. The funeral sermon was preached from the text
in James - What is your life? It is even as a vapor that appeareth for a
little time then vanisheth away.”
