BESS MAYS RITES MAY 18 

Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 18, 1976, at Thompson's Funeral Chapel in Holyoke, for Bess Stewart Mays, who passed away Saturday, May 15, at Sheridan Manor Nursing Home in Holyoke. 

Rev. Joe Stewart, minister of the First Baptist church of Holyoke, conducted the services. Interment was in Pleasant Valley Cemetery. Thompson Mortuary was in charge of arrangements. 

Bess was one of five children born to Cyrus and Jane Stewart. She was born March 17, 1906, in Oregon, Missouri. The Stewart family moved to Holyoke when Bess was six years old. They resided in and near Holyoke until 1940. The family then moved to southern Missouri. She was united in marriage to Amon Mays in 1925 at Denver. She contacted polio and has been an invalid since 1927. 

She was preceded in death by her father and mother; one brother Owen, and her husband Amon, who passed away August 20, 1973. She is survived by one sister, Mildred Wilcox, Denver; two brothers, Ross and Norman Stewart, both of Holyoke; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews
