Final rites for Jens “Bill” Jensen of Sterling, will be conducted today, Feb. 12 at 1 pm at the Fairfield Covenant Church the Rev. Timothy Goettel, officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairfield Cemetery. Mr Jensen died Saturday Feb 7, 1987 at the Logan County Hospital. He was 88.
 
Jens ”Bill” Jensen was born May 21,1989 in Nysted, Neb, the son of Hans and Annette (Christoffersen) Jensen, attended schools in Nysted and came to the Fairfield community in 1920 and began farming. He married Mable Bjorklun May 16, 1923 in Haxtun. The couple retired from farming in 1976 and moved to Sterling.
 
In the early 1950’s, Mr. Jensen was proclaimed “Corn King” of the annual Haxtun Corn Festival.
 
He was a member of the First Baptist Church and former member of the Fairfield Covenant Church.
 
Mr. Jensen is survived by his wife Mable Jensen, a son Carlyle Jenson, a daughter Thelda O’Toole all of Sterling, two sisters Beulah Castile and Alice Puchett both of Vancouver, Wash; five grandchildren and one great grandchild.
 
Tennant-Hettinger Funeral Home of Sterling is in charge of arrangements.
 
 
 
MABEL DORA (BJORKLUN) JENSEN

Mabel Dora Jensen of Sterling was born June 7, 1907 in the Fairfield Community northwest of Holyoke to Belle Woodhams and August Bjorklun. She died April 7, 1996 in Sterling at the age of 88. Mabel was raised on the homestead in the Fairfield Community, attending school in Fairfield.
 
She married Jens "Bill" Jensen on May 16, 1923 in Holyoke. The couple farmed until they retired in 1976 when they moved to Sterling. Mabel enjoyed raising flowers and canning. She also loved to spend time with her grandchildren.
 
She was the former treasurer of the Fairfield Friends Club, a former member of the Fairfield Community Church and belonged to the First Baptist Church in Sterling at the time of her death.
 
Mabel was preceded in death by the husband and three brothers.
 
Survivors include son Carlyle Jensen and wife Lillian of Sterling; daughter Thelda O'Toole and husband Jim, of Sterling; brother Frank Bjorklun of Haxtun; sister Maude Shannep of Holyoke; five grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.
