J.H. GUERNSEY IS CALLED BY DEATH
 
Deceased Had Been Resident Of Phillips County For Nearly Half Century
 
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon from the Christian church here for J.H. Guernsey, who died Saturday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. W.E. Johnston, southeast of Holyoke, at the age of 74. N.F. Horn, pastor of the church, preached the funeral sermon and interment was in the Holyoke cemetery.
 
Mr. Guernsey was born at Valparaiso, Indiana, September 28, 1859, and was married to Lydia Mason January 1, 1880. They began their married life at Independence, Kansas, but in 1887 moved to Phillips County, where they homesteaded the farm now owned and operated by Henry Struckmeyer.
 
Mrs. Guernsey died in December 1923, and since that time Mr. Guernsey has made his home with his daughter most of the time.
 
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Johnston of Holyoke, Mrs. Clara Perdieu of Goodland, Kansas and Mrs. Jessie Sheridan of Sugar City, Colorado, two sons, C.A. Guernsey of Holyoke and C.M. Guernsey of Haigler, Nebraska, a sister, Mrs. Rachel Wood, Valparaiso, Indiana, 17 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
