Henry and Mary Groshans Obituaries

HENRY GROSHANS RITES TUESDAY AT LUTHERAN CHURCH
 
Henry P. Groshans, 73, retired cattleman and longtime resident of the Holyoke community, passed away at about 8:00 a.m. Saturday, February 20, at the East Phillips County Hospital here following a long illness.
 
Funeral services were conducted at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 23, at Zion Lutheran Church in Holyoke, with Rev. James Pomeroy officiating. Interment was at Holyoke Memorial Park. The Lewis Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
 
A son of Louis and Pauline Schutz Groshans, Henry Paul Groshans was born May 11, 1891, at Deshler, Nebraska. He was baptized and confirmed at the Deshler Lutheran church.
 
On March 21, 1912, he was united in marriage to Mary Heine at Deshler. To this union six children were born, four of whom survive.
 
Mr. and Mrs. Groshans established their first home on a farm in Thayer County, Nebraska, where they resided for two years. They then moved to Gurley, Nebraska where they made their home for five years and then returned to Thayer County, residing there for nine years.
 
They moved to Holyoke in 1927. Mr. Groshans began raising registered Hereford cattle in 1932 and continued in the cattle business until his retirement in 1956. He was a faithful member of Zion Lutheran Church here.
 
Surviving are three sons, Edwin Groshans, Sidney, Nebraska, and Roy and Paul Groshans, both of Holyoke; one daughter, Lorna, Mrs. Duane Meinte, Holyoke; one brother, William Groshans, Carrollton, Missouri; one sister, Mrs. John Werner, Hebron, Nebraska; 16 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
 
Preceding Mr. Groshans in death were his wife, Mary, two sons, Elmer and Leonard; his parents; two brothers, Louis and John Groshans; and one sister, Mrs. Bertha Schmidt.
