FUNERAL SERVICES HELD FOR ALVY GARRETSON
Alvy Garretson was
born January 30, 1907 at Polk, Nebraska, a son of LeRoy and Mary Jones
Garretson. He attended grade school at Polk. In 1920, he moved to
Colorado with his parents to a farm northeast of Haxtun and attended
high school at Phillips County High School, graduating in 1925.
Garretson attended college in Fort Collins.
He married Bernice
Holmquist at her parents' farm home in 1928. They have lived and farmed
in the Fairfield Community since that time. Mr. Garretson was a very
active member of the Fairfield Covenant Church and has served on
numerous boards in the Haxtun Community.
Survivors include his
wife Bernice Garretson of Haxtun; two sons Loren (Pat) Garretson and
wife Marilyn of Haxtun, Paul (Zeke) Garretson and wife Maurine of
Greeley; daughter Mrs. Melvin (Imogene) Naggatz of Holyoke; brother
Floyd Garretson of Haxtun; sister Elsie Giles of Holyoke; six
grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
He was preceded in
death by his parents; daughter Maxine; brother Wesley; and four
grandsons, Delvin and Kerry Naggatz, Terri and Scott Garretson. Mr.
Garretson died Sunday, April 7, 1985 at the Haxtun Hospital at the age
of 78.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 10, 1985 at
10 a.m. at the Fairfield Covenant Church with Rev. Marc Peterson
officiating, with burial following in the Haxtun Cemetery.
BERNICE M. (HOLMQUIST) GARRETSON

Bernice M. Garretson of Haxtun was
born November 27, 1908 in Haxtun to Paul and Anna Lundberg Holmquist.
She passed away December 22, 1994 in Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort
Collins at the age of 86.
Bernice was the oldest daughter in the
family and moved to Haxtun when she was 7 years old. She spent her
education years in the Fairfield/Haxtun area and graduated from Haxtun
High School in 1928.
She married Alvy Garretson on September 19,
1928. To this union were born two sons and two daughters. Bernice
enjoyed sports participation as well as watching. She was a faithful
member of the Fairfield Church and was involved in many church
activities for many years. She was well known for her wit and sense of
humor and her special home-made rolls provided for many community and
family meals.
Preceding her in death were her parents, husband
Alvy, daughter Maxine and grandchildren Delvin, Kerry, Terry Lynn and
Scott.
Survivors include sons Pat Garretson and wife Dola of
Sterling, Zeke Garretson and wife Maurine of Fort Collins; daughter
Imogene Naggatz of Holyoke; brother Vernon Holmquist of Holyoke; sisters
Leona Ruch, Ruby Carlson, Vida Roberts and Florence Childers; brother
and sisters-in-law Floyd and Velma Garretson, Blanche Garretson; friend
Marilyn Garretson; six grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and other
relatives and friends.
Services were Tuesday, December 27, 1994
at the Fairfield Covenant Church with Rev. Dale Bishop officiating.
Burial followed at Haxtun Cemetery.

20-MONTH-OLD GIRL DIES AT FAIRFIELD
Maxine Louraine, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Alvy Garretson, passed away at the Mooney Hospital in
Haxtun, Thursday night of last week at the age of 20 months and 5 days.
She had been ill since Sunday, but not serious until Tuesday
morning when she was taken to the hospital at which time she was
suffering from croup which later developed into pneumonia. Maxine had a
smile for everyone and those who had learned to know her held a warm
place in their hearts for her.
She leaves to mourn her departure
her parents; a sister, Imogene; a brother, Loren; Mrs. E. Bixby, a
member of the family since the birth of the baby; her grandparents, Mr.
and Mrs. Paul Holmquist and Leroy Garretson, Mrs. Garretson having
passed away in December, 1931; her great grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. C.O.
Lundberg of Haxtun and Mr. and Mrs. F.M. Garretson of Polk, Nebraska,
besides numerous other relatives and friends. Funeral services were
conducted by Rev. Coulter of Haxtun and Rev. Johnson of Brady, Nebraska,
at the church Sunday afternoon with interment in the Fairfield
Cemetery.*
Relatives from a distance who came for the funeral
were Mrs. Paul Holmquist and daughters, Vida and Ruby, of Boulder,
Colorado, Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Holmquist and daughter of Byers, Colorado,
Mr. and Mrs. W.W. Skipworth and family, Mr. and Mrs. C.A. Jones, Mr. and
Mrs. William Skipworth and baby all of near Lamar, Nebraska, and Mr. and
Mrs. Lloyd Peterson of Venango, Nebraska.
*NOTE: Remains moved
to the Haxtun Cemetery about 1986.
