Carl Harry
Franson, Amherst, was born in Sedgwick County on July 20, 1922, to Carl
Edwin and Elin Marie [Idh] Franson. He died at Rose Medical Center in
Denver on Saturday, January 29, 2000, at the age of 77.
Harry
was baptized January 16, 1927, at the Swedish Lutheran Church in Haxtun.
He was confirmed at the Fairfield Covenant Evangelical Church on April
24, 1938. Harry attended elementary school in Yuma County.
The
family moved in 1933 to the Fairfield community where he completed 10th
grade. Harry graduated from Haxtun High School with the class of 1941.
Franson enlisted in the U.S. Army on January 25, 1944. He received an
honorable discharge on November 18, 1944.
Harry Franson and
Evelyn Ruth Oltjenbruns were united in marriage on February 9, 1947, at
St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Amherst. This union was blessed with two
children, Ardell Kay and Harold Stephen. Harry and Evelyn lived and
farmed near Haxtun until 1950, when they relocated to the Amherst
community. Harry farmed there for more than four decades until his
retirement, maintaining his home on the family farm until his death.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include
his wife, Evelyn, of Amherst; a sister, Dorothy Clark Mountain, of
Windsor, brothers Robert Franson of Lamar and Richard Franson of Haxtun;
his daughter, Ardell Zeiler and husband George of Aurora; his son
Harold, and wife Vicki of Brisbane, Australia; grandson, Luke Franson;
step-grandson Jeff Zeiler; great-grandson, Nicholas Zeiler; numerous
nieces and nephews; and several "adopted" grandkids.
Funeral
services for Carl Harry Franson were held on Wednesday, February 2, 2000
at St. Paul's
Lutheran Church in Amherst. Interment followed in St.
Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in Amherst. Rev
Richard Pierson officiated
at the services.
