Funeral services were held Saturday,
April 17, 1971, from the United Methodist church Holyoke, for Arthur C.
Falk, 81, who passed away at his home on April 14, 1971.
Rev.
Evan Brian, minister of the church, officiated at the service. Interment
was in Holyoke Memorial Park. Thompson Mortuary was in charge of
arrangements.
Arthur Carl Falk was born to Gust and Sadie Falk
on April 11, 1890, in Sumner, Nebraska. He was the third of six
children.
He moved to Colorado in 1912 and farmed in the
Fairfield community for 17 years. Later he moved to the Beachville
community and spent the rest of his life in Holyoke.
He was a
member of the United Methodist church, Holyoke Lodge No. 81, 32nd degree
Mason, member of Colorado Consistory No. 1. Mr. Falk served as Phillips
County commissioner for 24 years and took an active part in many civic
affairs.
Mr. Falk was married to Ester Holm in 1913, and to this
union three children were born, Fern, Emery Dale, and Irene. He was
married to Gladys Hofmeister in 1951. He was preceded in death by an
infant son, Emery Dale, his wife Ester in 1946, a daughter, Irene (Mrs.
John Orcutt) in 1965, his wife Gladys in 1963, and a step-son, Raymond
Hofmeister, in 1970.
He is survived by his daughter, Fern; three
brothers, Si, Frank and Paul; two sisters, Mrs. June Stewart, Mrs. Tille
Gillett; two grandsons, John and James Orcutt; three great
grandchildren, and four stepchildren. Willard, Melvin, Dale Hofmeister,
and Mrs. Dale O'Neal.

FUNERAL SERVICES HELD FOR MRS. ARTHUR FALK
Mrs. Arthur Falk, who
had been in failing health for the past two months, passed away at the
Holyoke Hospital at 8:30 p.m. Thursday. Mrs. Falk was born at Loomis,
Nebraska September 1, 1892. Coming to Colorado from Sumner, Nebraska in
1913, she made her home in the Fairfield Community.
She was
married to Arthur Falk of Haxtun March 5, 1913.
She attended
church from infancy, being confirmed at the Moses Hill Swedish Church
near Loomis and was a member of the Fairfield Covenant Church. She later
transferred to the Methodist Church in Holyoke.
She is survived
by her husband, two daughters, Miss Fern Falk and Mrs. John Orcutt. Two
grandsons and three sisters.
Funeral service was held Monday
afternoon at the Methodist Church, Rev. Haruf gave the sermon.
Pallbearers were J.N. Skold, John T. Anderson, Ray E. Crosby, H.J.
Hoppler, S.J. Meakins and D.F. Sagehorn. Interment was in the Holyoke
Cemetery.
OBITUARY
Esther Sophia Holm, daughter of George and
Augusta Holm, was born September 1st, 1892 at Loomis, Nebraska. She
passed away at the Holyoke Hospital on October 31st, 1946 following two
months of hospitalization for an illness that proved fatal.
She
was united in marriage to Arthur Falk of Haxtun, Colorado, formerly of
Sumner, Nebraska, on March 5, 1913 and they made their first home in the
Fairfield community near Haxtun. To them were born three children: Fern
Augusta, Emery Dale, who preceded her in death in his infancy, and Irene
Myrtis. Not only did she always tirelessly provide for her family's
physical comforts, but she maintained a cheerful and happy attitude that
brought about a happy home life and sense of family unity for her
husband and children.
Mrs. Falk from early infancy attended
church - being baptized and confirmed at the Moses Hill Swedish Covenant
Church near Loomis. She was a member of the Fairfield Covenant Church
for many years and had her membership transferred to the Methodist
Church in Holyoke in recent years after she and her husband moved to
Holyoke to make their home. She attended her church regularly, enjoying
and appreciating the Sunday morning services and also the other
activities sponsored by the church.
Mrs. Falk is survived by her
husband and her two daughters, Fern Falk and Mrs. John P. Orcutt and her
husband; two grandsons, John Arthur Orcutt and James Craig Orcutt; three
sisters, Mrs. Albert Holmquist of Bertrand, Nebraska, Mrs. Fingal
Thorell of Loomis, Nebraska, and Mrs. Kenneth Cramer of Smithfield,
Nebraska; five brothers, John and Arthur Holm of Kerkoven, Minnesota,
Frank of Omaha, Nebraska; Alfred of Bertrand, Nebraska, and Oscar of
Loomis, Nebraska. She will be sadly missed by these close relatives and
the number of friends she has made during her lifetime by her kindness
and hospitality.

Fern
Falk, 88, died on October 30, 2002 in Sun City, Arizona. She was born in
1914, the daughter of Arthur and Esther (Holm) Falk, in Fairfield. She
attended school there until moving into Posegate Hall in Holyoke. She
then attended Phillips County High School and graduated as Valedictorian
in 1931. She continued her education at Colorado State Teachers College,
Greeley. Fern taught at Holyoke and Alamosa before moving to Hammond,
Indiana in 1941. She taught at Harding and Clark schools, then became
Principal of Jefferson Elementary School in 1955 when the school opened.
She retired in 1976 and moved to Sun City, Arizona. She was a
member of the teaching honor society, Delta Kappa Tau.
Survivors
include two nephews, Dr. John and wife Sharyn Orcutt, San Diego,
California and Dr. James and wife Barbara Orcutt, Seattle, Washington;
brother-in-law John P. Orcutt, Delta; step-brothers Willard Hofmeister,
Texas, and Melvin Hofmeister, Haxtun; and step-sister, Nelda and husband
Dale O'Neal, Holyoke. Cousins, Wayne and wife Patricia Falk, Haxtun,
Edna Glee and husband Doyle Orcutt, Haxtun, Doris and husband Jim
Koester, Sterling, Laura Maller, Oakland, Nebraska, Donna and husband
Bob Herron, Las Cruces, New Mexico, Marge and husband Stanley Stewart,
Lexington, Nebraska, Norma and Byron Gillett, Aurora; lifetime classmate
and friend Winona (Koberstein) Rouze; many great-nephews, nieces and
friends also survive her.
Memorial services were held Saturday
May 3, 2003 at 10 a.m. at Tennant-Thompson Funeral Home, Holyoke.
Interment followed in the Holyoke Memorial Park.
