Martha Ellen (Hurdle) Evans Obituary

Haxtun Harvest, Haxtun, Colorado, February 5, 1925

Martha Ellen Hurdle was born in Indiana, December 9, 1872, and died at her home in Haxtun, Colorado, January 31, 1925, at the age of 52 years, one month, 22 days.

Early in life she was baptized in the Christian church. While still a child her parents moved to Roseland, Nebraska, where she resided continuously until her removal to this place five years ago. On September 24, 1890 she was united in marriage to Mr. Willard B. Evans. To this union were born six children, Charles, Mary, David, Lee and Lucile of Haxtun and Louis of San Jose, California.

The children, her husband, her mother and sister of Roseland, Nebraska, Grandchildren and other relatives and many friends mourn her death.

Her character was simple and unassuming, and her life was one of thoughtfulness and service to her family, her chief interest being in her home, her children and grandchildren and close friends. Though in frail health for many years, she was full of solicitude and helpfulness for others, with no mention of her own failing strength.

Those who know her best can truthfully say that an honorable, upright woman, a loving wife and mother, and a good friend and neighbor has passed to her reward.

The funeral service was held at the M.E. church, Tuesday, February 3, at 2:30 p.m. conducted by Rev. A.P. Gaines. A mixed quartet sang several beautiful selections. All of the children with the exception of Louis of San Jose, California, were present at the funeral.

Interment was in the Haxtun cemetery.
