Marion O.
Dix of Haxtun was born March 12, 1922 in Sterling to Lee and Leona
Carson Dix. He died Wednesday, December 30, 1992 at Briarwood Health
Care Center in Denver at the age of 70. Dix attended grade school at the
Rockland School and graduated from New Haven High School in 1942.
He was drafted into the U.S. Army in October of 1942 and served during
World War II in the United States as a prisoner of war guard. After his
discharge in March of 1946 he lived in Iowa and worked as a barber until
starting his employment at the Veteran's Administration Hospital in
Denver in 1952. After he moved to Denver, Marion re-enlisted in the U.S.
Air Force Reserves and served in Korea and Turkey.
He received
his discharge in March of 1982. Following his retirement from the
Veteran's Administration Hospital he moved to Haxtun to make his home.
Marion was a member of the Berean Bible Church and Lions Club. He was an
active member of the Senior Citizens and had helped with transporting
the meals from Holyoke to Haxtun for the Meet and Eat program. He
enjoyed helping people and was always willing to lend a helping hand in
time of need. Dix was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include brothers Max Dix and wife Mary of Rifle, Vernon Dix
and wife Mildred of Blanca and Jack Dix and wife Betty of Haxtun; and
nine nieces and nephews.
Services were held Tuesday, January 5,
1993 at the Berean Bible Church with Rev. Tom Walker officiating. Burial
followed at Haxtun Cemetery.
