Mary Ann (Preston) Conklin Obituary

Phillips County Colorado

Holyoke Enterprise, Holyoke, Colorado, May 1932

MRS. MARY CONKLIN IS CALLED BY DEATH

Deceased Came To Holyoke More Than Thirty Years Ago

Mrs. Mary Conklin died Saturday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. N.J. Show, in Holyoke, following an illness of several weeks.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon from the Methodist church, Rev. J.G. Olmsted pastor of the Christian church preaching the sermon. Burial was made in the Holyoke cemetery beside the body of the husband who died in 1927.

Mary Ann Preston was born in Bowens Prairie, Jones County, Iowa on November 14, 1852, the daughter of Joseph Freeman and Emeline [Benson] Preston. She was married to James W. Conklin on September 11, 1871 in Dubuque, Iowa.

Her husband was a Civil War veteran. They lived in Iowa most of the time until August, 1898, when they moved to Holyoke. They went to Denver in 1920, and resided there for 7 years. After the death of the father, in Edgewater, Colorado, on April 9, 1927, the family returned to Holyoke. [NOTE: this is incorrect - the family lived in Holyoke - Mary Ann returned]. Mrs. Conklin joined church on April 8, 1928. She was a member of the Rebekah and Royal Neighbor lodges.

To Mr. and Mrs. Conklin were born seven sons and four daughters. Four sons died in infancy. Those surviving their mother are James F., John H., and George C. Conklin, Mrs. Edith Kinch, Mrs. W.A. White, Mrs. N.J. Show, all of Holyoke, and Mrs. D.L. Harmon of Steamboat Springs. Mrs. Conklin is survived also by 31 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
