EDD COLSON
RITES JULY 17
Funeral services were held Thursday, July 17,
1975, from the First Christian Church in Holyoke for Edd L. Colson, 84,
who passed away Monday, July 14, in Imperial, Nebraska.
Dale
Arnold, minister of the church, officiated at the services. Interment
was in Holyoke Memorial Park.
Edd Lee Colson was born October 2,
1890, the third son of Robert and Clara Skaggs Colson in Chase County,
Nebraska.
The family moved to Hays County, Nebraska when Edd was
a small child. It was in this area Edd grew to manhood and received his
education. Prior to entering military service in 1917, Edd worked as an
engineer in the Hays County area. During World War I he served in
France.
Following his return from France in 1919, Edd was
engaged in farming in the Hays County area. It was here he met and
married Georgia Brown in 1921. The couple moved to Holyoke later in the
year. Edd was employed by the town of Holyoke from October 1922 until
his retirement in 1962.
He worked in the Power and Light
department, and was made superintendent in 1946. Following his
retirement, he was retained by the city in an advisory position from
1962 until 1965. He was a trustee on the town council from 1962 until
1965. In 1960, Georgia, his beloved wife of many years, passed away. Edd
married Eula Colson in 1964, who survives.
As a young man Edd
played the violin in a small musical group which played for many social
functions in the area. He was a 50 year member of the Holyoke American
Legion Post No. 90, and other civic organizations. He was a member of
the First Christian Church, Holyoke.
Edd was preceded in death
by his former wife, Georgia, his parents and four brothers, Elza, Hardy,
Harry and Charles, one step-son Lee Brown.
He is survived by his
wife, Eula; one brother Ray of Hays Center, NE; two step sons, Orville
of Paxton, NE and Ronald of Colorado Springs, CO; two step daughters,
Mrs. Irene Erdmann of Denver, CO and Mrs. Glenda Novak of Omaha, NE;
numerous nieces and nephews; 9 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; and
many friends.
