Leo P. Butte of Haxtun was born
January 3, 1914 in Campbell, NE to Mary Gansemer and Otto Butte. He died
April 3, 1995 in the Haxtun Hospital at the age of 81.
He moved
to Paoli with his parents and attended school there. He finished his
last year of high school in Haxtun. On April 26, 1941 Leo married Erma
E. Banks in Sidney, NE. They moved to Denver in 1942. He worked at
Denver Buick as a service manager and also worked in a defense plant
making army trailers.
During World War II, he spent 32 months
overseas in the European Theater. He returned to Haxtun in 1952. He
worked for the Standard Oil Station and later purchased the dealership
of the bulk plant. Leo was a member of the United Methodist Church,
American Legion Post #137 and a life-time member of Elks Lodge #1336.
Preceding him in death were his parents and brothers Harold and
Vernon.
Survivors include wife Erma, son Dennis L. Butte and
sister Dorothy Case.
Services were Friday, April 7, 1995 at
United Methodist Church in Haxtun. Interment followed at Haxtun
Cemetery.

ERMA ELIZABETH (BANKS) BUTTE

Erma Elizabeth Butte, 83, passed away October 9, 2005 in Sterling. Erma
was born October 14, 1921 in Amherst, to Fred and Alma (Hendricks)
Banks. She received her schooling in Haxtun, graduating from Haxtun High
School in 1939. On April 26, 1941 she married Leo P. Butte in Sidney,
Nebraska.
Erma helped organize the Haxtun Parent Teacher
Association and was the group’s first secretary. She worked at the
Haxtun Post Office for 28 years. In her younger years she enjoyed
bowling and was active in several bowling leagues. She was a member of
the United Methodist Church of Haxtun. She enjoyed watching sports,
particularly the Denver Broncos and Colorado Rockies. Her family enjoyed
her sense of humor and her passing will leave a void in their lives.
Survivors include her son Dennis and wife Billye Butte of Sterling;
and her grandchildren Laura Hartman and husband Pete, Cy Butte and wife
Greece, Bree Thibodeau and husband Brandon, all of Arvada, and Denae
Butte, Newport Beach, California. Great grandchildren Kayla Murray,
Heather Hartman, Cy Anthony and Amanda Butte, Cade and Riley Thibodeau;
special friends Gary and Jeralyn Egger, Shane and Radene Callicutt and
daughter Phoebe, Sterling and Casey and Robyn Egger, Fort Collins, and
several nieces also survive her.
Her husband Leo, her parents,
three brothers Glen, Ivan and Harold Banks preceded her in death.
Funeral services were held Thursday, October 13, 2005, at 2 p.m., at the
United Methodist Church in Haxtun. Interment followed at the Haxtun
Cemetery.
