Funeral services were held Saturday, May 20, 1978, at Zion Lutheran Church in Holyoke for Donald E. Brackhan, 45, who passed away Thursday, May 18, at Melissa Memorial Hospital. Pastor Gary Rahe officiated at the services.
Interment was in Holyoke Memorial Park. Thompson Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
 
Donald Eugene Brackhan was born in York, Nebraska on June 5, 1932, to Herman and Dora Brackhan.
 
He was baptized June 26, 1932 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Waco, Nebraska. After attending eight years of Parochial school, he was confirmed in St. John's Lutheran Church on April 14, 1946.
 
He attended his first year of high school at Concordia in Seward, Nebraska and graduated from Waco High School in 1950.
 
Don served in the Korean Conflict from December 8, 1952 until December 7, 1954. Following his return, Don was united in marriage to Mary Burhoop on February 12, 1955, and to this union three children were born, Bradley, Kristie and Misty.
 
Don farmed near Bradshaw, Nebraska until January 1968, at which time he purchased a farm near Holyoke, which he operated with his wife Mary, until his death.
 
Don was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6482, American Legion Post 90, and the Lions Club.
 
He was preceded in death by his father, Herman Brackhan, and his younger brother, Dennis Brackhan.
 
He is survived by his wife, Mary E.; his son, Bradley; two daughters, Kristie and Misty; a daughter-in-law, Sharon, all of Holyoke; his mother, Dora Brackhan of York, Nebraska and a host of relatives and friends.
