MRS.
G. BENNETT DIES IN DENVER; SERVICES SUNDAY
Mrs. Glenn E.
Bennett, mother of Mrs. Freeman Scheunemann of Holyoke, passed away in
her sleep early Friday morning, January 29, at her home in Denver. She
was 72 years of age.
Services were held at the Lewis Funeral
Chapel in Holyoke at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, January 31, with Rev. Leon Bonds
of Denver officiating. Interment was at Holyoke Memorial Park.
A
daughter of Robert and Laura McLeish, Elizabeth Doles McLeish was born
on January 26, 1893 at Plain Dealing, Louisiana, where she grew to
womanhood.
She came to Holyoke in October 1931, and was united
in marriage to Glenn E. Bennett at Saint Francis, Kansas on January 12,
1932. Mr. and Mrs. Bennett established their home in Holyoke and resided
here until moving to Denver in 1952.
Mrs. Bennett was a member
of the Holyoke Baptist church, Order of Eastern Star, American Legion
auxiliary and Royal Neighbors of America.
Survivors include her
husband, Glenn, Denver; three daughters, Mildred, Mrs. A.F. Scheunemann,
Holyoke, Mrs. Norma Nelms, Denver, and Mrs. John Snow, Verda, Louisiana,
and five sons, J.M. Simmons, Verda, Louisiana, Robert W. and Wilburn G.
Simmons, both of Valley Stream, New York, and Lamar and Kenneth Simmons,
both of Marshall, Texas.
Also surviving are two stepsons, Gene
Bennett, Sidney, Nebraska, and Philip Bennett, Encino, California; three
sisters, Mrs. Homer Keel, Eldorado, Arkansas, Mrs. Abe Bonds, Plain
Dealing, Louisiana, and Mrs. Raymond Moore, De Ridder, Louisiana; one
brother, Fort McLeish, Plain Dealing, Louisiana; 38 grandchildren
and
many other relatives and friends.
Preceding Mrs. Bennett in
death were her parents, her first husband, James M. Simmons, one brother
and three sisters.
