BACON, ONCE BUSINESSMAN HERE, EXPIRES IN DENVER
John W. Bacon of
Denver, who lived here for many years, passed away last Thursday,
February 25, at Presbyterian Hospital in Denver. Death was attributed to
complications resulting from a fractured hip which Mr. Bacon sustained
in a fall about a week earlier. He was 88 years of age.
Services
were held Monday morning at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Denver.
Interment was at Holyoke Memorial Park later that day beside the grave
of his wife* who passed away in 1926. Graveside rites were conducted by
Rev. John C. Walsh of St. Patrick's Catholic Church of Holyoke.
A native of Crawford County, Arkansas, Mr. Bacon was born December 24,
1876. He and his wife came to Colorado in 1908 and homesteaded in Yuma
County between Holyoke and Wray. They moved to Holyoke in 1917 and Mr.
Bacon was in the grocery and meat business for some time, associated
with M.C. Kelly and Earl Russell.
Mr. Bacon moved to Denver in
1938, where he had since made his home. He had resided in a nursing home
since September 1964.
Survivors include three sons, Ernest, Des
Moines, Iowa, and Cullen and Stanley both of Denver; two brothers,
Cullen and Clayton Bacon, Stillwell, Oklahoma; two sisters, Mrs. H.L.
Larkin, Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Mrs. Ruth Bigby, Fresno, California; one
stepdaughter, Mrs. Mary Laird, Big Timber, Montana; one stepson, Robert
Twiss, Otis, Colorado; three grandchildren; three great grandchildren;
and other relatives and friends. Two stepsons, Ed and Roy Twiss,
preceded him in death.
