ANOTHER PIONEER PASSES AWAY
Another of the
early settlers of the Haxtun community passed away July fourth, when
death claimed A.J. Anderson, pioneer farmer and rancher of this
community. Mr. Anderson had been in ill health for some time, and had
consulted some of the most noted specialist in the country in an effort
to affect a cure.
Mr. Anderson first settled in the Haxtun
country in 1888 and since that time had been prominently identified with
the general progress of the community. His death was a distinct loss to
the community and the high esteem in which he was held was evidenced by
the many beautiful floral offerings and the large concourse of people
who gathered to pay their last respects at the funeral Monday afternoon.
A.J. Anderson was born in Hjartlanda parish, Jonkopings Lan,
Smaland Sweden, August 20, 1853, and his blessed and useful life on this
earth ended July 4, 1925 at the age of 71 years, 10 months and 14 days.
He was united in marriage with Edla Erika Julia Bergen, April 20,
1877. To this union were born four children, one daughter and three
sons, of which the former preceded the father in death in 1918. He
emigrated to the United State in the spring of the year 1888.
After having lived for a few months in Page County, Iowa, he moved to
Haxtun, Colorado, where he had made his home till the time of his death.
During the 37 years of his residence in this community he had been an
active influence on higher and better standards of thought and living,
both in the home and in the community.
At the age of 28 years
he was converted into the faith of Jesus Christ. It was in this faith he
lived and wrought and overcame the many and severe hardships of the
early pioneer years, lived through not only in poverty, but also at
times in severe ill health. But with never faltering faith in the sure
promises of God he prevailed through it all and was bountifully rewarded
with recovered health and prosperity. Of temporal blessings he was
indeed a liberal giver to things he deemed good and furthering the work
of salvation of his fellowmen and the kingdom of God. His character,
marked with wisdom, zeal and nobility, has been and will be an
inspiration for many.
He is mourned by his wife, Edla Anderson
and his sons, Charles August, John Theodore, and Clarence Gustav, who
with their families live in the Fairfield community, near Haxtun, as
well as by a host of other relatives and numerous friends in neighboring
communities.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon from
the Lutheran church, Revs C.E. Dough, C.G.F. Johnson and A. Smithberg
officiating. Interment was made in the Haxtun cemetery.
