EDNA Doris (JOHNSON) ALLEN

Haxtun Harvest, Haxtun, Colorado, March 11, 1970

EDNA D. ALLEN RITES HELD TODAY

Funeral services were held for Edna D. Allen this Wednesday morning, March 11, 1970, at 10:30 a.m., at the Church of The Brethren in Haxtun. Rev. Russell Kiester officiated. Music was furnished by Mrs. Marvin Switzer at the organ and Miss Betty Sullivan, who sang “The Old Rugged Cross” and “Beyond the Sunset.” Casket bearers were Ace Goddard, Ray Goddard, Lloyd Cheramy, J.M. Crow, Dean Garrett and Lee Schaefer. Mrs. Allen died Sunday night, March 8, 1970, in the Sterling hospital after a prolonged illness.

Edna Doris Allen, a resident of the Paoli and Haxtun communities for 61 years, was born June 30, 1908. She was the daughter of Claus and Alma Johnson. She lived on the family homestead southwest of Paoli until the age of two when the family moved to a farm 1¼ miles east of Haxtun.

On December 19, 1955, at Raton, New Mexico, she was united in marriage to Porter Allen of Haxtun. From this time her home became the center of her life. And her leaving has caused a great emptiness and heartache. Early in her childhood she became a member of the Swedish Lutheran church and after the closing of the congregation she enjoyed the fellowship of the Church of The Brethren.

Preceding her in death were her parents; two sisters, Martha and Helen, and one brother, Robert.

Surviving to mourn her passing is her husband, Porter Allen; one sister, Beatrice Hanes; two half-brothers, Edwin Johnson of Longmont and Harry Johnson of Aurora; nieces, Mrs. Virginia Haviland of Aurora, Mrs. Roberta Gizinski of Holyoke, Mrs. Peggy Girard of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, Mrs. Charlotte Yost of Johnstown, and other relatives, friends and neighbors.
