Edwin Keith
Alexander passed away Thursday, March 12, 1992 at the Haxtun Hospital at
the age of 77.
He was born at Glenwood, Iowa on January 7, 1915
the son of Alfred C. and Laura Luella Doan Alexander .
Edwin moved
with his parents to Colorado in 1918 to a farm south of Sedgwick. Later
he moved to a farm north of Haxtun in the Fairfield district. He
attended school at District 13 and also at Fairfield. Mr. Alexander
worked on a farm as a farm and ranch hand, and later married Hazel Blake
on June 7, 1935 at Chappell, Nebraska.
They lived on the
Cottonwood Ranch where he was working at the time. In 1938, they moved
to Indian Hills where he worked for Gates Rubber Co. during World War
II. Then he worked with the U.S. Civil Service as a carpenter and
General Service for 19 years before retiring in 1972 on disability. In
1973, they moved back to Haxtun. Hazel passed away February 7, 1979.
He later married Velma Finningsmier on September 14, 1980. Edwin
enjoyed music all of his life. In his earlier years, he had his own
dance band and later played with a band at senior citizen events. He was
a member of the Church of The Brethren, and active member of the Senior
Citizens for many years, and a member of the National Association of
Retired Federal Employees.
Edwin is survived by his wife Velma
Alexander of Haxtun; his children Laurene Richa and husband, Leo of
Haxtun, Kenneth Alexander and wife, Betty of Golden, Lavonne Brower of
Lakewood, Peggy Nielsen and husband, Gary of Sterling and Donna
Kerstiens and husband, Dave of Sterling; brother Burl Alexander of
Indian Hills; eleven grandchildren, five great grandchildren and six
step children.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Hazel
Alexander; his parents; three sisters and four brothers.
Funeral
services were held on Monday, March 16 at the Church of The Brethren in
Haxtun with Rev. Roy Pfaltzgraff officiating. Burial followed in the
Haxtun Cemetery with Thompson Mortuary handling arrangements.

Funeral
services for Mrs. Hazel Etta Alexander, 65, of Haxtun were conducted
Saturday, February 10 from the Church of the Brethren with the Rev. Roy
Pfaltzgraff officiating. Burial was in the Haxtun cemetery.
Mrs.
Alexander died Wednesday, February 7, in the Haxtun Community Hospital.
Born January 9, 1914 on the Cottonwood Ranch near Sedgwick, she was
the daughter of Ruben and Harriet Ellen Loughrey Blake. She attended
school at Red Lion.
Chappell, Nebraska on June 17, 1935.
The couple lived in Sedgwick and Ovid before moving to Indian Hills,
near Golden. They moved to Haxtun in 1973.
Survivors include her
husband, Edwin Alexander of Haxtun; a son, Edwin Kenneth Alexander of
Golden; four daughters, Mrs. Laurene Richa, Mrs. LaVonne Brower, and
Mrs. Donna Wengert, all of Haxtun, and Mrs. Peggy Nielsen of Fleming.
Also, five brothers, Jack Blake, Amzie Blake and Rodney Blake, all
of Julesburg; Roy Blake of Ovid and Walter Blake of Sterling; and three
sisters, Mrs. Harriet Norris and Mrs. Jane Olsen, both of Haxtun, and
Mrs. Louise Turvey of Salem, Oregon.

Velma Josephine Alexander was
born on December 9, 1911 in Clatonia, Nebraska to William and Anna
(Struckmeyer) Winter.
She married George Whittaker on September
12, 1934. After George passed away in 1937, she married Henry
Finnigsmier on July 28, 1941. Henry passed away in 1952. Velma then
married Edwin Alexander. He also preceded her in death in 1979.
Velma enjoyed the outdoors, camping and fishing, crocheting and
gardening. She also loved animals and children.
Preceding her in
death were husbands George Whittaker, Henry Finnigsmier and Edwin
Alexander; sisters Alice DeBolt and Irene Weers; brother Elmer Winter;
grandson Kyle Finnigsmier; and great grandson Mitch Whittaker.
Survivors are children Dick and Bobbie Whittaker, Dwaine Whittaker and
Lori Allphin, Kay and Jim Majeres, Fred and Sharon Finnigsmier, Harry
Finnigsmier, and Larry Finnigsmier; sister Ruth Ashmore; brother Orval
Winter; 20 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces
and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, November 25
at the Church of the Brethren in Haxtun with Rev. Roy Pfaltzgraff
officiating. Burial followed in the Haxtun Cemetery.
