Chester Marvin Alberts Obituary

Holyoke Enterprise, Holyoke, Colorado, June 8, 2006
 
Chester Marvin "Chet" Alberts was born December 12, 1914 near Cortland, Nebraska to John Henry and Gladys Eugena (Sanders) Alberts. He died June 2, 2006 in Holyoke.
 
Chet was the oldest of three sons. He went to a country school until the third grade when the family moved to Paoli, and he finished his education in Paoli.
 
Chet married Hazel Vogel August 9, 1936. To this union six children were born. It was while working at Inter-mountain Elevator in Commerce City that Chet was drafted into the Army. He was discharged in February 1946 and joined Hazel and children in Holyoke, where they made their home.
 
Chet was employed by Walt Sagehorn as a carpenter until 1950. He began work as a custodian at Phillips County High School, working there until he retired.
 
Chet enjoyed traveling, photography, playing cards, woodworking and crossword puzzles. He also enjoyed playing his fiddle while listening to country music.
 
Chet was preceded in death by brothers Kenneth and Donald and his father and mother.
 
He is survived by his wife Hazel; six children, Peggy Bennett of Holyoke, Lola Shull of Lohrville, Iowa, LaVern and Linda Alberts of Holyoke, Frances and Jim Smith of Cleburne, Texas, Jim and Marlene Alberts of Loveland and Linda and Mitchell Bly of Holyoke; 14 grandchildren; and 19 great grandchildren.
 
In memory of Chet, contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church of Holyoke.
 
Funeral services were held Monday, June 5, 2006 at Holyoke United Methodist Church with Pastor Darrell Dennis officiating. Jeffers-Baucke Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Holyoke Cemetery.
