CARL ABSMEIER
Carl John Absmeier was born May 16, 1921 in Grand Rapids, Michigan
to Carl and Marie Geiger Absmeier. He passed away May 7, 1998 in
Sterling.
Carl grew up in Oak Park, Illinois where he attended
school and graduated. He attended Aquinis College in Grand Rapids,
Michigan, then enlisted in the Army Air Corp. He was a night fighter and
bomber pilot during World War II in the Chinese and African Theatre.
Carl received the distinguished flying cross with a cluster and was
honorably discharged in 1945.
Carl married his wife Pat
September 21, 1946 in Lansing, Michigan. Carl graduated from Michigan
State in 1947 and moved to Colorado where he attended law school at CU.
He received a Jurist Doctorate in 1950. The family moved to Holyoke and
lived there for 30 years. He was a partner in the law firm with Ben
Garmen in Holyoke. During that time he was a county judge.
Carl
was also a member of St. Anthony Church, Sterling Country Club, Colorado
Bar Association and the American Legion Post #20.
Survivors
include wife Pat Absmeier; daughter Pat Main and husband Warren of
Aurora; sons Jeff Absmeier and wife Debbie of Holyoke and Dave Absmeier
and wife Cindy of Greeley; and eight grandchildren.
Funeral
services for Carl John Absmeier were held Tuesday, May 12 at St.
Anthony's Catholic Church in Sterling with Rev. Robert Whipkey
officiating. Interment followed in the Holyoke Memorial Park.

Patricia C. Absmeier, 80, of Sterling, died Friday March 21, 2003, in Sterling. Visitation & viewing will be 10 A.M. to 7 P.M. on March 24 at Tennant Funeral Home. Vigil & Rosary service will be held at 7 P.M. also at Tennant Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 A.M. Tuesday March 25, 2003 at St. Anthony Catholic Church with Father James Baird Officiating. Burial will follow at Holyoke Memorial Park in Holyoke, Colorado.
Mrs. Absmeier was born June 14, 1922 in Rochester, Michigan, to Wayne and Louise (Halliday) Carpenter. She was graduated from high school in Rochester, and went on to be a graduate from Michigan State University in 1944. She married Carl Absmeier on September 21, 1946, in Lansing, Michigan. She volunteered for the American Red Cross during World War II. By teaching school she helped her husband through law school. The couple moved to Holyoke in 1950 and the two of them built Carl's law practice together. They moved to Sterling in 1979. She and her husband retired in 1986. Pat loved her family, especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed camping and traveling, going to Texas in the winter and the mountains in the summer. She is a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, Sterling Country Club and the Altar and Rosary Society.
She is survived by her children Pat and husband Warren Main of Aurora, Colorado, Jeff & wife Debbie Absmeier of Holyoke, Colorado, and Dave & wife Cindy Absmeier of Greeley, Colorado, one daughter-in-law Lisa Absmeier-Herman; nine grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. Pat was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Carl, sons Steve and Carl; sister Mary; and brother Wayne Carpenter.
Memorials can be sent to St. Anthony Catholic School, 326 S. 3rd St. Sterling, Colorado, 80751. Tennant Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
