"Walter and Webster Carter (Cartier) enlisted in the 34th Infantry in Champlain about 5 weeks after Lincoln's call for 75.000 men. They were assigned to Captain Davis Rich's Company D that was made up of men who enlisted in the Town of Champlain. The brothers were two of the 66 privates that were enrolled expecting to serve for two years.
The regiment went to Washington in July after organizing in Albany and, by September, they were patrolling along the Potomac west of the capital. In April 1862, they started their journey up the Virginia Peninsula, heading toward Richmond in the Army of the Potomac under General McClellan. During May, June, and July they sustained over 150 casualties. They stayed at Harrison's Landing until August 15th and in September joined the Maryland Campaign.
On September 17th they received 154 casualties at the battle of Antietam including 98 wounded. Webster was wounded and eventually lost the thumb on his right hand. He spent the next four months in hospital in Philadelphia until he was discharged.
Walter moved on with regiment which was ordered to Falmouth, VA, then. crossing the Rappahannock River, in December, they spent four days fighting in Fredericksburg in the middle of the month and received 35 more casualties. In May of 1863, just before the 34th mustered out, they participated in the Battles of Marye's Heights and Salem Church receiving minor casualties. The regiment returned to Albany and were mustered out on June 30th.
The sons of Ira Cartier and Charlotte Saxe spent the rest of their lives between New York, Vermont where their father was born and Quebec, their mother's birthplace."

April 21, 1960 "Mrs. Ida M. Lindell, 82, died at the Brush hospital Wednesday morning following an illness of eight years. Mrs. Lindell was born in Seward, Nebr., May 1, 1877 and had been a resident of Morgan county for more than 86 years.
She is survived by a son, Fred, of Brush; a brother, Winn Payne of Denver; two sisters, Mrs. Bertha Woodward of Sherman Oaks, Calif., and Mrs. Frankie Hutchins of Baldwin, Kans. She also leaves four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Her husband, Aron P. Lindell, died in 1943. Mrs. Lindell was a member of the Order of Eastern Star of Brush and a charter member of the Rankin Presbyterian church.
Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon at the Frezieres Funeral home with the Rev. M. Lynn Butcher officiating. Interment will be in Brush Memorial cemetery. Pallbearers will include Thurman Anthony, Fred Christensen, C. L. Oldemeyer, C. W. Emerson, C. Henry Anderson and C. P. Christensen. "

He was a life member of Tyre Lodge No. 18 He came to Coldwater from Bronson in 1911 as a partner in a barber shop located where the Southern Michigan Michigan National Bank Build ing now stands. He moved to Chicago in 1923, and was a barber in the Congress Hotel until 1937 when he returned to Coldwater and went to work for Bailey's and then Mitchell's.
He is survived by his wrfe; two daughters, Clover M. Flanders of Ann Arbor and Mrs. L. J. (Mona) Nelsen of Chicago; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren."

On the advice of physicians she returned to Colorado, arriving in La Junta twenty-four hours before her death. The funeral will take place at the Bee Hive schoolhouse in the Holbrook country, this morning at 10:30 o'clock."

September 26, 1903 " The funeral of Mrs. W. B. Moore was held in the school house last Saturday morniog, the services being conducted by Rev. D. Rich. A large company of neighbors followed the remains to its last resting place in the Holbrook cemetery."

February 1911 " Mr. Moore has been a resident of the valley for the past fifteen years. Coming down from the northern part of the state. He is operating an eighty-acre farm, and says that his crops last season averaged up very well. He had twelve acres of wheat which went fifty-five bushels to the acre and tested sixty six pounds to the bushel. Fifteen acres of sugar beets averaged ten tons per acre, while he had 100 tons of alfalfa. Mr. Moore, however, ls devoting a large part of his time to breeding and raising Percheron horses. He has twenty-five head of horses on his place at this time, most of which are brood mares. He also owns one-third interest in the Percheron stallion, Bolssy, which took the sweepstakes at the Farmers' Fall Festival, Bolssy is a magnificent specimen of this favorite breed of draft horse. He was imported from France and is valued at $2,000. Mr. Moore states that his returns have convinced him that this is one of the most profitable industries in whldh one can engage. Farmers as a rule are demanding a higher standard of breeding in their horses and are willing to pay the price."

Young Steven Moore was ring bearer, while older members of the masculine contingent included Robert Copp as his brother's best man; Merle Coon, the bridegroom's brother-in-law, and A. G. Box as ushers, The Rev. Robert H. Sutton officiated at the couple's vows."
