All stores were closed July 4th, except the Bryant store, and this gave the stands a good chance to
do business. Only one accident occurred, which of course was caused by fire crackers.
Some boy put a good sized cracker into a bottle, and the consequence was that a piece of glass struck
Jacob Tucker in the foot, severing a small vein, but the wound was promptly cared for by Dr. Gaither,

"Kitty Adams died on Monday, February 10, 2020 in Chester County Hospital, West Chester, PA. She was 94 years old. Prior to her death, Mrs. Adams was a longtime resident of Norwood, PA. She was born in 1925 in Brighton, CO, the seventh child of Legrand Byington Tucker and Glendora Hailey Tucker. She grew up in Brighton, surrounded by her siblings and close friends, and spent many happy weekends hiking and fishing with her father in the Rocky Mountains. She graduated from Brighton High School in 1943, and moved to Denver to attend Parks Business College, and to work as an executive secretary for McKesson Co. It was in Denver that she met Plato Adams, a young Army Air Corps officer on weekend leave from his base in Texas, and in April 1947, they were married in Glenwood Springs.
Following Plato's discharge from the service, the couple moved to his hometown of Hazleton, PA, where their first child, Kitty Paula, was born. They moved to the Fairmount section of Philadelphia while Plato attended school, and, in 1955, bought a home in Norwood after he accepted a position with Eastman Kodak Company. They had four more children: Mary Susan, Plato Thomas, Barbara Anne, and Christopher David, all of whom were raised in Norwood.
Kitty led an active and productive life. In addition to her responsibilities as a young mother, she volunteered at her church, and at her children's schools and activities. For many years, she was very involved with the Norwood Girl Scouts, including the coordination of their annual cookie drives, and she was a frequent chaperone on school field trips. For several years, she voluntarily worked on physical rehabilitation of severely handicapped children. She was very involved with her church, working the weekly bingo fundraiser, and singing/traveling with their very successful church choir. Kitty was a highly talented seamstress, and was largely responsible for the choir's costume creation project, personally sewing hundreds of articles of clothing.
Once her children were grown, Kitty took a job as a medical secretary, work at which she excelled and found rewarding. She and her husband had always enjoyed travel, whether it be short scenic backroad trips, or visiting their children and grandchildren or Kitty's siblings all over the country. Thanks to the airline careers of daughters Susan and Paula, they were able to afford overseas travel to Spain and Greece.
The period after Plato's death in 1993 was very difficult for Kitty. But she adopted a schnauzer puppy she named Duffy, and showered him with love. She worked as a secretary for Elwyn Institute, and later, as a sales associate for KMart, and continued living (for almost 60 years) in the home she had shared with her husband. She continued to take advantage of her opportunities to travel, and by the end of her long life, she had visited a number of countries in Europe, South America and Asia.
Kitty leaves behind five children, who love and miss her dearly, and two daughters-in-law, three sons-in-law, thirteen grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren.
