March 1900 "James H. Grady, whom the people will elect as their next aiderman
from the first ward, is a Yankee of the Vermont brand. He was born in 1853,
and reared at St. Johnesburg, Vt. He served his apprenticeship
in the machine shops of that town, and then started west.
He settled in Virginia City, Nevada, in 1873, and remained there until 1882,
with the exception of a short time spent in Bodie county, California.
In 1882 Mr. Grady came to Park county, Colorado, where he was engaged as
engineer on the London mine. In 1895 he came to Victor, where he has resided ever
since. He owns the Nevada house, on North Third street, where he now lives
with his family. When he first came to Victor, Mr. Grady worked on the Anna Lee
for the Portland company. He was engaged as engineer on the John A. Logan mine
last summer, and is working there at the present time.
Mr. Grady is a member of the Engineers’ union, and is well known all over the
camp as a conscientious, industrious laboring man.
All labor organizations will support him, to a man.
The people of the first ward could not find a better man to represent them in the
