John J. Harms

In 1885 Richardson County, Nebraska, John C. Harms is 34, Adena C. 27, with Barney 3, John six months, and brother Harm Harms 21.  John proved up a quarter in 32, 7N 48W in 1896.



Harm had a half-dozen kids with Mary (Groathouse) (Schrader) in the 1880's, then married Pauline in Nebraska in 1894.

In 1900 Rockland precinct, John C. Harms, born January 1851, and Dina Sept 1856, both Germany, have Berhard H. Mar 1882 Illinois, John H. Nov 1884 Nebraska, Gertie H. Dec 1890 Colorado, and William G. Feb 1892 Colorado.

They're back in Thayer County, Nebraska in 1910, farming - John C. is 59, Diena B. 54, with John W. 26 and Wilhelm 18.

William George Harmes registered in Williams Nebraska, saying he was born Feb 13, 1892 at Leroy, Colorado.  He's in Thayer County in 1920, married, and in 1930 William 37 and Bertha 33 are in Weston County, Wyoming, with stepchildren Iona 11,  emford P. 8, and Lanann four, all three born in Nebraska.  William is back in Thayer County in 1940, divorced.

William H. Harmes married Susie Fulford October 14, 1909, recorded in Logan County.  Susie's obituary said she was born Nov 1890 in Cozad, Nebraska to Russell G. and Addie Swift Fulford, Sr., who homesteaded seven miles south of Fleming.

In 1910 Fleming precinct, William H. Harms is 26, married to Susie, 19. 

They're on the same page as divorced Mary M. Harms, 56, who has Henry 22, son Main, 18, and Herman, all three born in Nebraska.

Main Harms married Cora M. Wertz March 6, 1914, recorded in Logan County  He registered with a Padroni address, born April 22, 1891 at Fairbury, Nebraska, married.


Main proved up a quarter in 33, 9N 49W in 1916.

In 1930 Logan County, Main is 38, Maggie 33, with Goldie M. 15, Eugene W. 123, Raymond M. 10, Harold W. 9, and Lora Lea 3.
They're in Hood River County Oregon in 1940, with Raymond 20, Harold 19. Lora Lee 13, and Joe Ann 1.

Harry Ray Harms age 92 went to be with the Lord March 28, 2014. He was born in Fleming on November 13, 1921 to William and Susie (Fulford) Harms. He was the 6th child of 7. Harry attended the Fleming School through the 8th grade. He married Frances (Frankie) Olson in 1942. They spent a brief time in California for wok. They then lived and farmed in the Daily, Crook and Fleming areas. While living in Brush 1955-1957, Harry worked on well drilling set-up crews. In 1957, the family moved to Fleming to farm again. They were foster parents to many children. He was employed at the Fleming School in charge of maintenance from 1958-1978. He joined the Logan County Road and Bridge maintenance department in 1978 and worked there until his retirement in 1987.
He was a member of the Assembly of God Church, The Fleming Volunteer Fire Department and served on the Fleming City Council.
Harry’s wife, Frances passed away in 1986. He met Arlene Seger and they were married October 10, 1987.
Harry lived an uncompromised life of faith, his passion for Christ was unwavering even till his last breath. He enjoyed camping and fishing in the Rocky Mountains. Harry’s sense of humor and infectious laugh will always be remembered and he will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Harry was preceded in death by his parents William and Susan, wife Frances and all of his siblings.
Harry is survived by his wife Arlene, daughter Ruth Dunbar and husband Dan of Visalia, CA son Donald Harms and wife Daveda of Greeley. Also, Arlene’s children, Valerie and husband Ken of Elizabeth, Leland Seger, and the late Lynn Seger of Haxtun, Colorado. Harry leaved sixteen grandchildren, thirty three great-grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. In addition there are many beloved nieces and nephews.

Visitation for Harry will be Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at Gerk Funeral Home in Haxtun from 9:00am-7:00pm.
Celebration of Life will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Haxtun, Colorado with grandson Harry Harms and Son Don Harms officiating on Thursday, April 3, 2014 at 2:00pm.
Internment will be at the Fleming Cemetery in Fleming Colorado.
