Mary Matilda Groathouse (b. March 10, 1851, d. March 13, 1915) Mary Matilda Groathouse (daughter of John J Groathouse and Rachel Dierks) was born March 10, 1851 in Germany78, and died March 13, 1915 in Oxford, Furnas, Neb. She married (1) John Schrader on 1869 in Jefferson, Neb, son of "Fritz" Schrader and "Mena" Baird. She married (2) Harm Hurich Harms on 1880 in Reynolds, NE. "

In 1900 Jewell County, Kansas, Mary E. Peer born March 1886 in Kansas, is with father Joshua Peer Dec 1843 Illinois. Geroge is 29, Minnie J. 27, and Peter S. 18.
Her mother is also in Jewell County in 1900, born June 1843 in Indiana, married but no spouse. Charles June 1880 is with her.
Joshua Bryant Peer 1843-1902 is buried in Jewell County # 55683090, with Rebecca "married August 23, 1866 at Timber Creek, Marshall County, Iowa " 1843-1916 buried in Brush # 73510782.


John Schrader, age 31, married Mary Peer, age 21, on July 17, 1907 in Alma, Harlan County, Nebraska.

His mother Mary's second husband, Harm Harms, is in Johnson County, Nebraska in 1900, born Otober 1864 in Germany, married 7 yeas to Lina May 1873 Nebraska. Thay have Maggie M. 6, Herman M. 4, Anna L. 2, and Mary W. three months.

In 1910 Logan County, John is 34, born in Nebraska, Mary 24 Kansas. They have John Jr. 2 and Frances three months, both born in Colorado.
He's next to Mary M. Harms, 56 divorced, German Dutch, who's been married four years. She's had nine kids, all living. Hardy 22, Main 18, and Herman 16 were all born in Nebraska.

(Main Harms owned a quarter in 33, 9N 49W, Logan County in 1917. He registered for WWI in Padroni, Colorado, born April 23, 1891, with a wife and two children. Main 1891-1966 is buried in Hood River, Oregon # 37892349.
Harm H. Harms 1847-1917 is buried in Thayer County, NEbraska, # 42094433.
Herman 1894-1985 is buried in Redmond, Oregon # 30989942.
Henry W. Harms registered for WWI with an address of Pinneo, Washington County, Colorado, with a wife and two children, farming, born April 10, 1888 at Reynolds, Nebraska.
In 1920, still at Pinneo, Henry and Mary Jane, both 31, have Simon A. 7 and Albert H. 5. (Albert Henry Harms 1914-1985 is buried in Akron # 75566873.
Mary Jane (Peck) Harms 1888-1924 is buried in Sterling # 57482317.
Simon Arthur Harms 1912-2003 is buried in Sterling # 58072322 "Simon Arthur Harms, 90, of Magnolia, Texas, and formerly of Akron, died June 12, 2003, in Magnolia. Funeral services were this morning at Brenner Funeral Home in Akron, with Pastor Wilton Swires officiating. Burial followed at Riverside Cemetery in Sterling. Mr. Harms was born July 21, 1912, in Fleming to Henry William and Mary Jane (Peck) Harms. At the age of two, he moved with his family to Washington County, where he attended rural schools. He farmed and ranched all his life, buying his father's farm in 1949. He ran cattle, and later sheep, until his health no longer permitted. He is survived by nephew Allen Harms, Akron; and nieces Erma Kay Harms, Pawhuska, Okla., and Wilma McCurdy, Magnolia. Mr. Harms was preceded in death by his brother Albert, and one niece. "

In 1940 Washington COunty, Henry W. Harms is 52, with Lavada 56 and son Simon A. 27. Next household is Albert H. 25 and his wife Irma 24 born in NEbraska.
Lavada Harms 1884-1946 is buried in Sterling # 57170524.

In 1920 Logan County, John is 35, Mary 33, John M. 11, Frances M. 9, Minnie 8, Augusta R. 7, Hazel M. 3, and Leslie V. eight months.
In 1930 they're farming in Kit Carson County, John 54, Mary 44, John E. Jr. 21, Minnie R. 17, August A. 16, Hazel 13, and Leslie V. 10.

In 1940 John, a laborer, and Mary are in Morgan County, with only Leslie. Charles Peer 60 and Elizabeth 57 are next to them.

John 1873-1954 and Mary E. 1886-1974 # 81162925 are buried in Bursh, Colorado.

MINNIE

Minnie Schrader married Andrew Eggink on May 17, 1933, recorded in Kit Carson County.

Minnie 1911-1979 is buried in Ripon California # 100527639, with Andrew 1908-1989.

FRANCES

Frances Schrader married Barney VanderMeer on May 17, 1933, recorded in Kit Carson County.

AUGUSTA

Augusta Rose Schrader was born October 22, 1912 near Fleming, dying Jun1, 2005 as Augusta Hagan.

In 1940 Tulare County, California, Arthur Hagan 28 and Augustta 26 have Kenneth 6 COlorado and Gene 2 California. They wee in Morgan COunty, Colorado in 1935.

She's buried in Brush 1912-2005 # 79420541, with Arthur L. 1911-1985.
Kenneth # 151479666 is buried in Evergreen, Colorado "Son of Arthur Lee Hagan and Augusta Rose Schrader, in 1959 he joined Colorado State Patrol, where he retired after 29 years on the force. He spent 14 of those years patrolling in Summit County and living at Keystone in the house that he built for his family. Another 15 years were in Clear Creek County and living in Idaho Springs. On August 21, 1960, he married Lois Thelma Fletcher in Breckenridge and became a father to her two children, Kimberly Sue and Edward James. "

JOHN

John Schrader married Dora Elliott on May 3, 1933, recorded in Kit Carson County.

John E. Schrader, 80, of Denver, passed away April 12, 2009. Visitation, Thurs. 4-7PM, service, Fri. 12PM, both at Highland Mortuary.
He's buried in Highland Cemetery 1928-2009, with Delores L. 1927-1012.

HAZEL
"Hazel Volberding, 96, of Akron, died on May 23, 2013, at the East Morgan County Hospital.
Hazel Irene Schrader Volberding was born on her parents homestead near Fleming, Colorado, June 1, 1916. She was the fifth of six children born to John E. and Mary (Peer) Schrader.
She lived at Fleming, Vona, and later Brush, Colorado, where she was a nurse. While there she met Henry. They were married in the Trinity Lutheran Church parsonage on May 7, 1938. At that time, she received catechism instruction and became a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Akron.
Their first home was on a farm 23 miles southeast of Akron. They then moved to Elba and started a blacksmith and machine shop. About 10 years later they bought a farm south of Akron which they lived at for about 36 years. They continued to farm even after moving a farm house into the town of Akron.
Hazel was an avid antique collector and a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the Trinity Lutheran Ladies Aid.
She was preceded in death by her husband Henry, her parents John and Mary Schrader, two brothers John and Leslie Schrader, three sisters Minnie Eggink, Frances Van der Meer, and Augusta Hagan, one granddaughter Tiffini Volberding, and one grandson Stephen Volberding, as well as her seven brother-in-laws and their spouses.
She is survived by her daughters Gloria Kruse and husband John Charles of Vienna, VA and Henrietta Uhlenhopp of Akron, her son Larry Volberding and wife Christine of Colorado Springs, six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral service was held Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at Trinity Lutheran Church.
Interment followed at Akron Cemetery.

LESLIE

Leslie V. 1919-1942 is buried in Brush # 81162571, "AAF Pursuit ASquadron, World War II"
He died as a prisoner of war in Luzon, Phillipine Island area.
