Charles and Florence were the parents of Vera "Fern" (DAVIS) MILLER, born August 13, 1899, and died July 9, 1987, Creston, Union County, Iowa. Fern and her husband resided for a time in Jefferson Township of Ringgold County, Iowa in the early 1920's.

January 1917 "A grand total of 508 jack rabbits was killed New Year's day by the farmers
in the vicinity of Merino. Two teams took part in the big hunt and about fifty men and boys participated in the day's work.
One of the teams was designated as the Happy Valley team and was captained by Ross Sheeley and Joe Roesener.
The other was known as the upland team and had for its captains Xiel Dilley and Tom Heggs. The valley team
won by a margin of twenty rabbits. The rabbits were sold for seven cents each and the proceeds were spent for
a banquet to the hunters on their return to Merino Monday evening."

September 1919 "All roads seem to have led to Yuma Monday,
if one might judge from the number of people that attended the
Non-partisan League gathering at the fair grounds. The grandstand was
crowded to its capacity, while many people remained in their cars.
There were certainly over 3,000 people in attendance.
Some good talks were made, and there were others that were not so good.
Among the speakers of the day might be mentioned:
John Norris, master of the State Grange and member of the executive
committee of the Non-Partisan League; James Collins, of Eaton,
state president of the Farmers Union and chairman of the executive
committee of the N. P. L.; R. W. Marshall, of Denver, state secretary
and manager of the N. P. L.; A. F. Browns, register of the
United States land office at Sterling; Albert Dakan, of Longmont,
field manager of the organization, and Neal Dilley, of Merino,
local organizer."

1916 "On the complaint that he made improper advances to women at Merino during the celebration there on Labor Day,
Thomas Battson appeared in Justice of the Peace Naugle's court Thursday, but his case was dismissed on the
suggestion of Deputy District Attorney Hays before it ever went to trial.
Mrs. Amanda Dilley and her daughter, Mrs. Long, were the chief witnesses for the state and they told of the
defendant's suggestions. But the district attorney's deputy suggested that inasmuch as Battson
had given the information on which action had been begun against two alleged bootleggers the offense would be overlooked."
