About US GenWeb Project

USGenWeb was established in 1996 by a group of genealogists who shared a desire to create online centers for genealogical research. Each of our literally thousands of web sites have been created and are maintained by volunteers. Some of the offerings you're likely to see in these diverse and creative sites include query boards, listings of local sources for records, county and state histories, online genealogy books, research tips, maps, and links to helpful internet resources. You'll even find transcribed records online, accessible for free from the comfort of your home. Our Special Projects, such as the nationally-recognized Tombstone Project, assist in the effort to gather these record transcriptions. The USGenWeb Archives are a major repository of data, which is provided by helpful contributors - people just like you!

If YOU are interested in volunteering your time by adopting one of the available counties, check this out...

On the USGenWeb Project you'll find a well organized effort to place genealogy materials on the Internet. This project is supported by hundreds of volunteers all across the county. The system is organized by states, and counties with each county having a coordinator responsible for maintaining a site of resources which are available for that county. You'll also find archives of genealogy records, also organized by state and county.

The COGenWeb Project is an outgrowth of this effort. If the county in which you are interested does not have a page and you wish to participate, please contact us.

Volunteers are needed in all phases of the project including creating and maintaining home pages, and organizing archives submitted by volunteers and transcribing public records for inclusion in our archives. Won't you join us? Colleen Pustola, COGenWeb State Coordinator
