Kit Carson County Pioneers:

Cornelius Kliewer, sons Henry and Cacharias, 8 South 51 West


Cornelius Kliewer and Maria Ediger had Anna Kliewer in Klein Schardau, West Prussia, Germany on June 16, 1832.
In 1880 Marion County, Kansas, Cornelius Kliewer is 50, farming, Maria W. 55, Henry 20, and Zacharias 12, all born in Poland.

All four are still in Marion County in 1885.

In 1900 Marion County, Cornelius is farming, 70, with Maria 76 and Zach A. 31.
One tree said Maria died in 1904.

Cornelius claimed a quarter in section 24, 8S 51W in 1912.

Cornelius 1829-1908 is buried in Flagler # 27161016.

Mary Kliewer is in Marion County in 1910, widowed, 79, with daughter Mary Balzer 48 and her Jusband Jacob C. 50, and their eight kids.
This is not Cornelius' wife, but David Kliewer's, and they were in Marion County in 1880.

CACHARIAS

Cacharias claimed a quarter in section 25, 8S 51W in 1912.

In 1920 Kit Carson County, Cachrius A. Kliewer is farming, 52, Augusta Kliewer 36, Olive N. Kliewer 18, Herman A. Kliewer 14, Edna S. Kliewer 13, and Ella M. Kliewer 10.

Cacharias 1868-1946 is buried in Flagler # 27161337, with Augusta E. Schroeder Kliewer 1882-1976 # 5089839.

"Mrs. James Wilson and Mrs. W. C. Wheeler of Steamboat went to Flagler Tuesday of last week to attend the funeral of their father, C. A. Kliewer, who died the previous Saturday in a Denver hospital after a long illness. Mr. Kliewer was widely known in Steamboat and resided here until his recent illness sent him first to a Greeley hospital and then to Denver.
In addition to his widow and two daughters in Steamboat he is survived by two other daughters, Miss Ella Kliewer of Denver and Mrs. Shirley Walker of Flagler.
Mr. Kliewer was a pioneer resident of Flagler and following the funeral services there he was buried in the Flagler cemetery."

July 1969 Steamboat Springs "Mrs. Augusta Kliewer of Flagler, Colo., and Miss Ella Kliewer of Denver are visiting at the homes of Mrs. W. C. Wheeler and Edna Wilson. "

"Services for Mrs. Augusta Kliewer 94, a former resident of Steamboat Springs, were held at Flagler, Colorado, August 19, 1976 at the First Congregational Church with Rev. Harvey K. Griffith officiating. She was born near Hillsboro, Kansas, January 7, 1882 and passed away in Denver, Colorado, August 16, 1976 She is survived by one son, Herman Kliewer of Greeley, 4 daughters: Shirley Walker of Pine, Colorado, Ella Kliewer of Lakewood, Edna Wilson of Wheat Ridge and Olive Wheeler of Steamboat besides numerous relatives and friends. "

NORA OLIVE

Nora Olive Kliewer, 21, married Conrad H. Smith on December 24, 1923 in Hugo.

In 1930 Gilpin County, Olive is a law office stnographer, 28, with Conrad H. 28, Paul W. 5, and Waldo M. 3.

Olive Smith, 29, married William C. Wheeler on November 21, 1930 in Steamboad Springs.

In 1940 Routt County, William is 50, Olive 38, Dean R. Wheeler 18, Paul Smith 15, Wasldo Smith 13, and Onell Wheeler 29.

1973 " Mrs. Edna Wilson, who now makes her home in Craig, has been spending some time visiting with Mrs. W.C. Wheeler."

She's buried in Routt County 1902-1984 # 77535861. So is W. C. "Chester" Wheeler 1890-1970 # 77635782 - his first wife Gladys 1888-1927 in the same cemetery.


HERMAN

Herman A. Kliewer, 23, married Dorothea G. Jones on June 17, 1928 in Denver.

In 1940 Greeley, Herman is 35, Dorothea 32, Cecille Jane 6, and Janet 3.

Herman Albert Kliewer 1905-1981 is buried in Greeley # 160804852, with Dorothea G. Jones Kliewer 1907-1999.

Jack E. Chesnut of Grandview, MO died on Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at home.
Jack was born on January 10, 1936 in Greeley, Colorado to Byron and Lettie Chesnut. Raised on a farm in La Salle, Colorado, Jack went to a one-room schoolhouse. He graduated high school in Greeley in 1953 where he met Janet Kliewer during his senior year. Jack began his studies in college but became more fascinated with a love of flying. He flew a crop duster and became a flight instructor.
On March 13, 1957 Jack married Janet Arden Kliewer in Greeley, Colorado.

Jack enrolled in the Colorado State College Air Force ROTC. He was commissioned to serve in the United Stated Air Force in 1960 and the couple moved to Florida where Jack entered flight school. Due to a heart condition, Jack was no longer eligible to fly. He moved into Atlas Missile training and from there went into Aircraft Maintenance. Throughout his distinguished Air Force career, Jack served in a variety of leadership roles under Strategic Air Command. Jack received honorable retirement as a Lieutenant Colonel after 21 years of service.
While in the Air Force, Jack also received his MA in Counseling in 1974. From there he took seminary classes and became an ordained pastor. Jack spent the remainder of his life serving people as a Biblically-based counselor.
Jack's two greatest joys in life were his Savior, Jesus Christ, and his family. Jack’s life and legacy of faithful service to Jesus Christ is celebrated by his wife, Janet of 60+ years; his children John (Kelly) Chesnut and Judy (Tim) Barrett; his grandchildren: Melissa (Sam), Rachel (Justin), Christopher (Kelly), Megan, Jacob, David, Allison, Joshua, Nathan and Aaron; his great-grandchildren: Rory and Aidan and one more on the way; and his niece, Janalee.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 22nd at 10:00 am at Longview Funeral Home, 12700 S Raytown Rd, Kansas City, MO 64149. A private family interment will follow at Higginsville Veterans Cemetery.
He's buried in the Missouri Veteran's Cemetery, Higginsville, Missouri # 183619404.

Cecille Joyce Kliewer and Bertram W. Grable's engagement was announced in Greeley in 1953.

They divorced in Denver on December 20, 1977.

Joyce Kliewer and Richard Eric Davis married in Greeley on August 5, 1979. Richard died January 5, 2005 in Portales, New Mexico, FindaGrave # 190326448.
"Mr. Richard Eric Davis, 67, of Portales, died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2005, at his home in Portales.
He was born on June 12, 1937, in Elmhurst, Ill., to Helen and Lester Davis. He was reared in Bethesda, Md. where he graduated from Chevy Chase High School in 1955. He went on to attend the University of Maryland and the University of Wyoming. After he moved to Portales he also attended classes at Eastern New Mexico University. On Aug. 5, 1979, in Greeley, Colo., he married Joyce Kliewer. He was a computer salesman for Pace Setter Corporation where he was a member of the Million Dollar Club. He was a member of the North American Short Wave Association and also of the First United Methodist Church. Family members said he enjoyed traveling and especially taking cruises.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sons, Richard Eric Davis Jr. and Robert Davis.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Jeanette Cecile Davis Cole (and husband, Thomas) of Irving, Texas; four grandchildren and three step-grandchildren; and a sister, Elinor Davis Cruzan (Will) of Las Cruces.H

Joan E. and David K. Melear married December 7, 1981 in Greeley, divorcing in Gallatin Montana on November 18, 1985.

Joan Ellen Melear, born in Dover, Delaware on July 13, 1956 to Bertram W. and Joyce Grable, married Robert Murdoch MacDonald on November 8, 1986 in Gallatin, Montana.

EDNA

Edna Kliewer and James D. Wilson married in Boulder on May 4, 1929.

James David Wilson 1903-1966 is buried in Flagler # 13491691.
"Funeral services for James David Wilson were conducted Tuesday afternoon, August 23 in the Root Mortuary at 2:00 p.m. Mr. Wilson died of suffocation Saturday, when a car he was working on at home, fell on him, causing his death. Born in Marked Tree, Arkansas, May 1, 1903 he came to Colorado in 1917 and to Routt County in 1943. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge. Surviving are his wife, Edna K., two daughters, Mrs. Charlene Stieduhar, of Wheatridge, Colorado and Mrs. Norma Rae Morgan of Reno, Nevada and five grandchildren. Services were in charge of Reverend Arthur Goodrich. Henry Zehner accompanied by Maxine Oilman, sang Beyond the Sunset and My God and I. Interment was at Flagler, Colorado at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday morning."

1982 Steamboat Springs "Edna Wilson, of Denver, has been visiting her many friends here. She worked for many years as a clerk in the County Treasurer’s Office. "

1992 Steamboat Springs "Hilda Roper enjoyed a visit last week from old friend and former resident Edna Wilson, accompanied by her sister and the latter's husband. Jim Wilson and Tom Roper were longtime friends, both now deceased. "

Edna Wilson 1907-2002 is buried in Wheat Ridge, # 6422525. Her daughter Charlene J. Wilson Stieduhar 1933-2011 is buried in Oak Creek, Colorado # 96969115. "Born in Denver to James and Edna Wilson"
