Ernest and Mary L. (Butler) Owen, 8 South 50 West


ERNEST'S FAMILY

In 1900 Knox County, Nebraska, Ernest M. Owen is farming, born April 1869 in Iowa, sister Lucia H. Shaffer 56 is widowed, Stella G. Shaffer 20, Mary I. 16. His parents Ambrose 86 and Marva 74 are with them.

"Mr. Ambrose Owen died last Friday, February 28, 1902, at his home six miles southeast of Creighton, Nebraska, aged 87 years, 9 months and two days.
He was born in Chittenden County, Vermont in 1814 and was married to Miranda L. Diggins, March 23, 1844 in McHenry County, Illinois and enjoyed 58 years of married life.
He was the father of five children, three daughters and two sons, all of whom with the wife survive him. "
He joined the Christian church 35 years ago and has since lived a consistent Christian life. He was an honorable upright citizen, a good neighbor and respected by all who knew him.
About three years ago, he suffered a severe sickness from which he never fully recovered.
Funeral services were held at the family home by Rev. F.J. Kennedy Monday and burial made in the Creighton cemetery.

MARY'S FAMILY

In 1880 Page County, Iowa, Mary Butler is 4, with parents Chatt H. Butler 46 and Louisa 36. Charles is 8, Eva 5, and Albert2. They're living with Chatt's parents Samuel Butler 86 and Jane 76.

Chatfield Hazen Butler 1833-1907, per # 15668333, is either buried in Gage County, Nebraska or Page County, IOwa.
"He Married on 02 Jul 1868, Page Co., IA. to Miss Louisa Catherine ANNAN, They had 8 Children born to this Union: (3 Sons & 5 Dau's)  "

Louisa 1843-1900 is buried in Page County, both dying in Gage County.

Mary Butler is in Gage County, Nebraska in 1900, 24, with father C. H. Butler 66, Eva 27, Alber 22, Lizzie 18, and Dora 16.

In 1910 Kit Carson County, Mary L. is 35, born in Iowa, living with brother Albert F. 33.

ERNEST AND MARY

Ernest M. Owen claimed 160 acres in section 5, 8S 50W in 1912, and Ernest N. Owen claimed one in section 5 in 1914.

Ernest M. Owen and Mary L. Butler married in Kit Carson County on Sept 10, 1913.

In 1920 Flagler precinct, Ernest is farming, 49, Mary L. 43, both born in Iowa. Syroule A. is 5, Bessie E. 1.

The four are in Ordway, Colorado in 1930, Ernest a street laborer.

In 1940 Crowley County, Colorado Mary is widowed, 64, with Syroon A. 25. Daughter Bessie E. is 22, married to Champ C. Christian 26, with Ernest E. 2 and Donald D. 1.

Buried in Ordway are Ernest 1869-1937 # 30923944, Mary 1875-1955 # 30924085.

Bessie E. Christian 1918-2007 is also buried in Ordway # 315;63010, with Champ C. Christian 1913-1992.

Syroun A. Owen 1914-1974 is buried in Nashville National # 3197624, with Grace (Carnell() Owen 1914-1989
" September 8, 1974 "Services for Syroun Albert Owen, 60, of 4812 Jeffrey Drive, a salesman for Tennessee Machinery Co., will be at 10 a.m. tomorrow at Woodlawn Funeral Home. The Rev. Earl Goodwin will officiate. Burial will be in National Cemetery here. Owen died Wednesday afternoon in at Baptist Hospital after a heart attack. Born in Flagler, Colorado, he was a son of Ernest and Mary Butler Owen. He attended public schools in Colorado and served with the U.S. Army during World War II.
Owen married the former Grace Puckett in 1941. She survives. After leaving the service, he moved to Nashville and began working at Tennessee Machinery Co. in 1950. Owen was a charter member of Glenwood Baptist Church. He was also a member of VFW Post 1291, past grand commander of the Tennessee Military Order of the Cooties and past sixth district commander of the VFW in Tennessee.
Other survivors, in addition to his widow, include a son, Michael W. Owen, Providence, R.I.; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Shirley Carver, Nashville; a stepson, George Fitzgerald, Nashville; a sister, Mrs. Bess Christian, LaJunta, Colo.; six grandchildren and a great-grandchild." "
