Benjamin and Elizabeth (Duncan) Hughes, sons Claude and Homer, daughter Stella (Cook) and Dessie Pearl (Dyson) , 8 South 49 West


In 1895 Cloud County Kansas, B. F. "Hughs" is 38, Eunise 35, with Stella 11, Homer 18, - these four born in Missouri, Claude 10, Willard 7, and Jesse 2, these three born in Kansas.
In 1900 Cloud County, Benjamin Hughes, born March 1856 married twenty years to Eunice Apr 1862, both Missouri. Stella born Jan 1881, Missouri, Homer March 1882 Missouri, Willard March 1887 Kansas, Jesse March 1892 Kansas, Pearl July 1895 Kansas, and Isa - daughter- October 1897 Kansas.
In 1910 Cloud County, Benjamin and Eunice have Jesse, Pearl, and Isa.


In 1910 "County Clerk Howard issued a marriage license this week to Jesse T. Messenger and Mae C. Hughes, both of Seibert.
In 1900 Bourbon County Kansas, John S. Hughes 41 born in Kentucky, and Anna 38 have Mry 14.
Jess I. Messinger is in Kit Carson County in 1920, 40, with Mary C. 34 born in Kansas, Margaret M. 8, and John W. 6.
Jess T. Messinger is in Kit Carson County in 1930, 51, with mary C. 44, Maxine M. 18, and John W. 16.
So this Mary Hughes doesn't seem to be related.

Ben and Eunice are alone in 1920 Kit Carson County.
Eunice, widowed, is alone in 1940 Kit Carson County.

STELLA

Herman Paul Goldenstein 1881-1927, buried in Cloud County, is her husband, per # 13493551.

In 1930 Kit Carson County, Stella M. is married to Charley P. Cook, a laborer, 54, born in Pennsylvania, first married at 43. Stella is 49, born in Missouri, first married at 221
Stella and Charles Cook are buried in Flagler # 13493551. 1881-1971.

WILLARD
One tree said Willard was in Kiowa County in 1920, married, in Otero County in 1930, and died in Tulare County California in 1962.

CLAUDE
In 1900 Norton County, Kansas, Claude born June 1885, is a farm laborer for the Jacob Beard family.
Claude is in Cloud County in 1910, married to Rachel 22, and they have Virgil ?months old.
Claude proved up 240 acres in sections 1 and 2, 8S 49W in 1917.

Claude is farming in Montezuma County in 1920, married to Nora L. 28, born in Nebraska. Virgil E. is 12, Verna R. 9, Benny W. 5, Ethel M. 3, and Elen F. eidht months.
In 1940 Kit Carson County, Claude is 56, Nora 49, Junior 12, Stella Mae9, and Roberta 8.

Claude 1884-1964 # 13492200 and Lenora Abbey (Mulch) Hughes 1892-1949 are buried in Flagler,
Memorial services for Rev. Junior F "Jack" Hughes will be 2 pm Saturday (March 15, 1997) at the Weston Assembly of God Church. Private internment will be at the Weston Cemetery. Rev. Hughes, 69, of Weston, Oregon, died Tuesday, March 11, 1997, at his home. He was born March 4, 1928, at Flagler, Colo., to Claude F. and Abby N Mulch Hughes. He worked on the family homestead until he entered the ministry. While in the evangelistic field, he held a church revival at Vona, Colo., where he met Opal Holzworth. They married March 31, 1951, at Fort Lupton, Colo. The couple raised four sons and three daughters as well as other children along with their own. Survivors include his wife, Opal, at the home; sons, Randy Hughes of Weston, Richard Bashore of Newprot, Wash., and Michael Haldeman of Fulton, Mo.; daughters, Bonnie Hughes of Anchorage, Alaska, Marla Kay Bernier of Athena, and Pamela Price of The Dales; three sisters, 23 grand-children and 17 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Ronald, in 1955; his youngest son, Robin in 1985; three brothers and four sisters.

HOMER
Homer L. Hughes married Maude Doan April 10, 1909, recorded in Kit Carson County.

In 1910 Kit Carson County, Homer is farming 28 Missouri, married one year to Maude 18, Kansas.


Homer Hughes proved up a quarter in 26, 7S 49W in 1913.
Homer and Maud are in Montezuma County, Colorado in 1920, with Eunice Nl. 9 and Herschel S. 3.
All four are in Montezuma County in 1930.
Eunice Hughes married Curtis Honaker Nov 26, 1930, recorded in Montezuma County.

Homer L. Hughes and Maude Hughes divorced in Montezuma County in 1935.

In 1940 Montezuma County Homer is living alone, married but no spouse. farming.

Herschel Lee Hughs, born Nov 10, 1916, died January 2, 1982 in Tehama County, California, mother's maiden name Doane.
He's buried in Shasta County # 41040198.

Jesse L. Hughs 1892-1915 is buried in Cloud County # 93100924.
BERTHA
Bertha 1886-1887 is buried in Cloud County # 93100923.
and so is an infant daugher of Ben and Eunice # 93100922.
DESSIE

John T. Dyson 40 and Dessie P. 33 are in 1930 Flagler. Jessie E. is 14, Flossie E. 12, Eunice I. 10, Evelyn M. 8, Mabel I. 6, Lester L 4, and newborn Guy .

In 1940 Flagler, Charles Cook is a laborer for the W.P. A. 64, born in Pennsylvania, with Stella 49 born in Missouri. Nephew Guy D. Dyson 10, born in Colorado is with them.

JESSE

Jesse A. Hughes married Althea M. Bradshaw Oct 4, 1908, recorded in Kit Carson County.
This is probably a different Jesse - Ben's son was only eleven years old in 1908.
Althea was in Kit Carson County in 1900 with parents Albert and Ellen Bradshaw, born about 1880 in Illinois.
1920 "Bradshaw, Mrs. Albert, Farmer, S. 30, T. 9, R. 46, P. O. Stratton. Mrs. Bradshaw was born in Illinois in 1860, and settled in the County in 1888. She is a widow and has five children. "

In 1910 Kit Carson County, Jesse A. 35 born in Iowa, Althea M. 30 Illinois, have Jesse A. Jr. just born.

Jesse A. Hughes proved up a quarter in section 20, 9S 47W in 1913 - Hugo land office, and one in 19 and 20, 9S 47W in 1911 - BLM records have it as the Gunnison land office.
In 1930 Althea M. 50 is widowed, with son Jesse A. 20, and mother Ellen R. Bradshaw, 70, Illinois.
Jesse, Jr. is living alone in 1940 Goodland, Kansas, a laborer.


ISA
Isa married Fred Racette, and they'e in Cloud County in 1920, 1930, Sedgwick County, Kanssa in 1940, and died in 1967.

Mrs. Isa E. Racette, 68, formerly of 160 N. Ash, resident here since 1933, died Sunday at a Mulvane nursing home. Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in Blessed Sacramento Church. Rosary will be at 8 p.m. Monday at Cochran Mortuary. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Born in Aurora, Kan., she came to Wichita from Clyde, Kan. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. R. C. Booker and Mrs. V. L. Bulleigh, Wichita, and a sister.
