Nellie's son died in January 1959 in Des Moines, Iowa " Mr. Cowman died of pulmonary emphysema Monday at University Hospitals in Iowa City after an illness of several years. Born in Marion County, Mr. Cowman came to West Des Moines from Ottumwa 20 years ago.
He was with the Rock Island 45 years before retiring in 1957.
He was a member of the Methodist Church, Gnemeth Masonic Lodge,
Des Moines Consistory, Za-Ga-Zig Shrine and the Order of Railway
Conductors. Survivors are his widow, Selma; a daughter, Mrs. Claudia Lorenz of San Mateo, his mother, Mrs. Nellie Pickerel of West Des Moines; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren."
