" July 8, 1897 John T. Hollingshead born in Tennessee May 22, 1826, but grew to manhood in Kokomo, Indiana. Later he went to Iowa, where he married Mary Ann Graham june 23, 185g. After his marriage he removed to Sauk county, Wisconsin, where he continued to reside until the breaking out of the War. He enlisted in the fall of 1861, in A Co. 19th Wis. Vol., and served his country's cause until the close of the War. He moved to Sherman county, Kan., in 188g, where he has since resided. After a lingering and painful illness, he died july 1, 1s97.
He leaves three sons and three daughters and his wife also survives him. He rests in our quiet cemetery and out on these wide Plains and under the Blue sky Mother Earth has taken one More of her Patriot sons lovingly to her bosom. He will be remembered in private life ss a man, full spirit, Loving adventure, fond of a joke, and the companionship of old comrades, indulgent to his family, and generous to a fault. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Bates, assisted by Rev. Rogers, and the G. A. R. Post of which he a member. The casket draped with the Flag and loaded with flowers and a large concourse of people testified their regard for the deceased by their presence and expressions of sympathy."

"' Laurance Hollingshead 55, a native of Boise, died here last Wednesday (October 19, 1966), after a lengthy illness. Services were held Saturday in Sacramento and interment followed. He was born in Boise Oct. 21, 1910, the son of Mr. and Mrs. (John) Hollingshead. He attended Boise public schools and was graduated from the University of ldaho. He was a director of the Sacramento Home from: 1953-1964, was a member of the Child Welfare League of America, a former member of the Sacramento Rotary Club, president of the Executive's Round Table of the Sacramento area United Crusade, president of the Sacramento branch of the American Association of Social Workers, and vice chairman of the California Association of Social Workers.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Evelyn Hollingshead, Sacramento, a daughter, Mrs. James Taggart, Big Rapids, Mich., two sisters, Mary and Hester Hollingshead, Boise, two brothers, John Hollingshead, Oak Harbor, Wash., and Richard Hollingshead, Crouch, and an uncle, James Hinton, La Jolla, California."

Elijah is living alone in 1910 Colorado Springs, proprietor of a grocery.

The 1910 city directory has him as a grocer at 920 S. Royer.

March 12, 1897 Kanorado, Kansas. This is likely one of the three children dying before 1900.


May 14, 1897 Goodland "Jim Hollingshead takes C. M. Harding's place as section foreman."

January 1899 Goodland "Brakeman Jim Hollingshead has quit and has gone to Denver."

The United States Census, 1900 found James A. Hollingshead, a 38 year old married male , born April 1862 in Wisconsin to a father born in Indiana and a mother born in French Canada, living in Colorado Springs, El Paso County, Colorado. He had been married for six years to Minnie B. Hollingshead, age 26, born October 1874 to a father born in Indiana and a mother born in Illinois. She was the mother of five children, only two still living. With them were those two children, Lana F. age 6 and Mary A. age 2 months, as well as James' brother Frank. James was a day laborer and Frank was a salesman of monuments.

The United States Census, 1910 found James Hollingshead, a widowed white male age 47, born in Wisconsin to parents born in Wisconsin (probably a false or lazy enumeration), living in Goodland, Sherman County, Kansas, a town about fifteen miles from the Colorado border. With him were his three daughters, 'Lorna' F., Mary A., and Ava S. Lana was enumerated as born in Kansas, the other two children in Colorado. Their mother was enumerated as having been born in Idaho. James worked for the railroad; his job title is not easy to read, almost looks like 'Rip Front'.
James Artemus Hollingshead 7/25/1951, plot E0000I 000037 0000SE, is also buried in Colorado Springs.
