Marion W. and Liva E. (Gray) Saxton, 7 South 51 West



In 1900 Burt County, Nebraska, Marion Saxton, born July 1879, is at school, with William Saxton, farming, 55 and Mary 47. James is 27, farming, Armina M. 25, a dressmaker, and Lloyd 11.


Marion W. Saxton, of Kit Carson County, Colorado, 27, son of Wm. E. Saxton and Mary Black, married Vina Gray, 25, daughter of V. B. Gray and Mary Gantz, on April 25, 1907 in Burt County, Nebraska. She was born in Elmo, Missouri.

Marion claimed a quarter in section 26, 7S 51W in 1910.


Marion and Vina are back in Burt County in 1910. Marion 30, Vina 23, with a hired man.

In 1930, Marion and "Liva" are in Burt County, with Merrill and Maxine both 19, Lowell W. 11, and Murray V. 5.

Marion William Saxton 1879-1966 is buried in Burt County # 27617431, with Liva Elizabeth (Gray) Saxton 1882-1964 # 27617518.

"Liva Elizabeth Gray was born at Elmer, Mo., February 8, 1882, the daughter of Vanburen and Mary Gray. She died July 25, 1964 at the Senior Citizens Home in Tekamah at the age of 82.
When a small child she accompanied her parents to Nebraska, who lived for a short time near Decatur and then moved to Cherry County for several years at Valentine. Here she attended school in a log school house.
In about 1890 the family moved back to Burt County in a covered wagon. She attended rural schools and Tekamah High School. In preparation for a teaching career she attended Nebraska State Teacher Colleges at Wayne and Peru. She taught for 10 years in the Burt County schools.
She was united in marriage to Marion W. Saxton April 28, 1907. Their first years of married life were spent on a homestead at Flagler, Colo. Then they returned to Burt County and have lived in the Riverside community since that time. Four children were born to them, twins, Maxine and Merrill, Lowell and Murray.
Mrs. Saxton was baptized on January 14, 1906, and has been a member of the Riverside Baptist Church since that time. She served in various capacities in the church including president of the Women's Mission Society and the teacher of the adult Sunday school class for nearly 20 years. The church accorded her the honor of a "This Is Your Life" party when she retired. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and a Gold Star Mother.
Preceding her in death were her son, Lowell, who died while in military service in 1943, and a brother, Joseph.
Survivors are her husband, Marion; daughter, Mrs. Carol Gilbert (Maxine) of Centerville, S.D.; sons, Merrill and Murray of Tekamah; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Mrs. Ed Patchin (Myrtle) of Meeker, Okla., Mrs. Homer Stout (Effa) of Arcata, Calif., Mrs. Charles Miller (Amelia) of Meeker, Okla., Mrs. Burt Marrs (Flossie) of Denver, Colo., Mrs. Guy McCanless (Irene) of Oklahoma City, Okla., and brother, Charles Gray of Prague, Okla."
