The passing of Mr. White ends one of the most colorful lives of
this community. He was an old newspaperman and particularly
interested in young reporters. On many occasions he contributed to
this paper and it was one of his sincere pleasures to type out
a story of early days of this country, especially as they pertained
to development of property, Mr. White was a kindly man,
and leaves scores of friends to mourn his death.
Frank Ira White was born August 1, 1870, in Atchison, Kansas.
His early newspaper experience was obtained on the Denver Post in
Denver, Colo. He became interested in Oregon and in 1904
went to the Oregonian in Portland where he served as city editor
for one year. Just about that time there was strong development
noted in the Klamath basin and he arrived here in 1905
to identify himself with real estate holdings.
He was particularly involved in the growth of Mills addition
and named many of the streets In that section of the city.
Mr. White returned to Portland in 1918 and served as financial
editor of the Oregonian. He was responsible for the first colored
supplement issued by that paper. Later he was identified with the
Portland chamber of commerce and served as secretary of the foreign
trado department. After several years in Portland,
Mr. White returned to Klamath Falls to make his home.
Stories of early day development of the city
interested Mr. White. One which he told with relish concerned
members of the old chamber of commerce, J. D. Carroll,
J. Frank Adams, Nate Merrill, Judge George Baldwin and himself.
The five made a trip to Sacramento back in 1906,
found Ringling Brothers circus playing In the city and made
a deal with the circus head to advertise the Klamath basin
and especially Klamath Falls. How they took over the "circus" was
a new high in chamber of commerce community advertising and
one never equalled. Mr. White was one of the early chamber
presidents. Mr. White's old office still stands on
South Fifth street on the alley back of the Emporium.
The family home, "Home Crest," Included some 60 acres facing
the main canal southeast of the city. Arthur street now runs
through the property which Mr. White subdivided.
At the time of his passing .... and a niece
of the late L. F. Willits. Mrs. White died in Portland
in 1923. There were no children. In 1930,
Mr. White married Mrs. Lillian Carries of Portland,
who survives him. There are also several brothers.
Mr. White with his wife and old friends of the family,
Mr. and Mrs. Sydney Evans, went to Portland some
six weeks ago. He failed to improve and death
occurred at the Evans home. Funeral services
will be held early next week from Finley's mortuary
in Portland with interment in the family plot of
Rose City cemetery. The time of the rites will be
announced later."

"Mr. White, as a reporter on the Denver Post, had been instrumental in
bringing to Justice more than one criminal of highly dangerous character."
