Clara Petty Butler's sister Verna M. Petty is teaching in Kit Carson County in 1920, 22, married to Mattie M. 30, with Hilma 13 and Mildred 11 (wonder if this is a second marriage ???) born in Kansas, boarding with the William and May Swaim family in Burlington precinct, farming.

Verna married Alfred E. Blackwell, having George Edward Blackwell on February 17, 1923. George is buried in Barstow, California, dying October 7, 2008 # 32971524 (says he was born in Limon, Colorado.)

Alfred had been in Republic County, Kansas in 1920, 27, married to Mattie 30 born in Iowa and two daughters, Hilma 13 in Kansas and Mildred 11 in Iowa.

In 1925 they're in Grinnell, Kansas, Alfred 29, Verna 26, and George 2.

They're in Los Angeles in 1930, Alfred 33 born in Nebraska is a steel worker, Verna 31, and George 7.

Alfred 1895-1981 is buried in Barstow, California # 44879170, with Verna M. 1898-1980 # 44879171.

ALBERT'S FIRST WIFE

Mattie had been in Wapello County, Iowa in 1900, born there December 1887. Her father John Hamilton born June 1860 Ohio is married eight years to Anna R. Sept 1865 Ohio. Eunice is 19, Mattie 12, William 6, Lewis A. 4, adn Doris 2.

"Miss Doris Hamilton of Greeley, Kansas, came one day last week for a visit with her sister, Mrs. Mattie Blackwell."

"Velma and Mildred Blackwell left for Clayton one day last week for a visit with relatives. "

February 27, 1919 "Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Blackwell left Friday morning for Clayton, Kansas, for a few days' visit with their parents."
Mattie L. (Holtz) Blackwell died in February 1920. She's buried in the Clayton cemetery, Decatur County, Kansas # .

February 5, 1920 Belleville Telescope "Mrs. Mattie Blackwell was born near Kirkville, Iowa December 14, 1889, and died at her home in Munden January 31, 1920, of pneumonia. She -lirsL_rao.v-ed-to .-Ciilb.y, -Kan.sas--in IXSS with her parents, then back to Kirkville, Iowa and in 1901 moved to Greeley, Kansas, where she was united in marriage to John Holtz February 8, 1V)05. To this union were born two children, Hilma and Mildred. In November, 1915, she was again united in marriage to Alfred Blackwell, at Clayton, Kansas.
To them was born a son, being buried with his mother.
She was the operator at the depot, and the section men, station force of Munden and local employees also gave a large wreath, with the many others.
She leaves to mourn her death her husband and two children, her father, step-mother, one sister, one half-sister and three half-brothers. As she had requested her body was taken to Clayton, Kansas, Monday, for burial. Short services at the house at 11 o'clock, Monday. Relatives present at the funeral were J. A. Hamilton and wife of Greeley, Kansas, Mrs. Eunice Brown of Martinburg, Iowa, and Mrs. Maggie Johnson, Kirksville, Iowa.


Mattie's father John Alexander Hamilton 1860-1934 is buried in Superior, Nebraska # 45786661 with his second wife Anna 1865-1943.
Her mother Ida May McCullough Hamilton 1859-1890 is buried in Wapello County, Iowa # 149911135.


Kerrville Texas - January 8, 1964
"Rites Tuesday For John Wesley Holtz, 73.
Rev. Win. P. Weeks of St. Peter's Episcopal Church officiated at the rites held Tuesday for John Wesley Holtz, 73, who died Saturday at his home, 1005 Wholess Street. Interment was in the Garden of Memories under the direction of Smiths. He was a native of Neosha Falls, Kansas and a retired employee of the Humble Company. He had resided in Kerrville for the last six years. His survivors are his wife who resides in Kerrville, two daughters, Mrs. Mildred Chiles of Kerrville and Mrs. Todd Thompson of Soldier, Kansas and a son, W. D. Harlow of Ingram. He was a member of the Episcopal church."

He's buried in Kerrville # 67799986.
Willard Duncan Harlow 1911-1968 was the son of his second wife Myra Ullrich 1886-1958.

Hilma Marion Holtz born January 29, 1906 in Woodson County, Kansas, died April 1, 1984 in Kerrville Texas.

Kerrville, April 1, 1984 "Services were held Tuesday for Mrs. Zadie Mae Lee, 69, of Ingram, who passed away Saturday in a local hospital. Services were held in the Grimes Funeral Chapels and interment followed in the Nichols Cemetery. Mrs. Lee, a resident of Kerrville for the past 65 years, off and on, and a prior resident of Earth was Past Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star in Marysville, Kansas and a librarian at the Butt- Holdsworth Memorial Library, Kerrville. She is survived by two sons, Harry Dinnel, Jr., Omaha, Neb., and Jack Dinnel, Wheatland, Wyo., a sister, Mildred Chiles, Port Lavaca, Tx., an aunt, Doris Hamilton, Kerrville; a nephew, Fleming Chiles; a niece, Carol Wiltrout of LaMarque, Tx. Also seven grandchildren and seven great- grandchildren"

Mildred Eunice Holtz, born February 23, 1908 in Ottumwa, Iowa, died October 18, 1987 in Port Lavaca, Texas, husband Fleming Nuckles Chiles 1908-1980.
She's buried in Port Lavaca # 62502188.
