July 1941 San Bernardino "Informality and simplicity were preferred by Miss Maxine Irene Arthur of San Bernardino and Laurence Larkin Smith of Running Springs for their wedding, which was quietly celebrated Wednesday evening, July 23, at the Lutheran church in Riverside. The Rev. H. Paul Romeis, pastor of First Luth eran church in San Bernardino, was the officiating minister, sealing the marriage vows for the pair at 7:30 o'clock in a single ring ceremony. The church was empty, except for the bridal party, and there was no music. Carl D, Smith, brother of the bridegroom, served as best man and the bride was attended by an intimate friend, Miss Marie Webb of Colton. The .charming bride, who has beautiful red hair, chose for her wedding costume, a dress of navy blue sheer, with which she wore matching accessories and a corsage of red rosebuds. Miss Webb was attired in powder blue sheer with gardenias in her corsage. Mr. and Mrs. Smith left immediately after the ceremony for a brief wedding trip and will return to make their home at Running Springs. The bridegroom is employed there with the United States Forest service. Mr. Smith is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Alva J. Smith of El Monte and is a native of Kansas. He attended school in L03 Angeles, graduating from University High school, and has been in the forest service for several years. The bride, a native of Arizona, Is one of the several attractive daughters of Mrs. Sallie I. Arthur of 812 Orange street and tlfc late Ora E. Arthur. She has lived here the greater part of her life, grad uated from San Bernardino High school and has been active in young people's affairs of the First Luth' ran church.
