Memories of Seibert "Rogers' wife Mary was an agent for the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific
Railroad for many years. Located about one hundred feet north of the post office was the Seibert
Free Press, formerly the Hoyt Free Press. Its owner, G.L. Olds, sold the paper in 1889 to a Mr. Patterson
who only published it for a few months before it failed. The paper's assets were sold to Frank Mann
who used them to start a paper in Burlington. "

May 1897 Beaver City, Nebraska "T. S. Trehearne and family of this city received cards this week
announcing the marriage of their daughter, Miss May E. Trehearne and Mr, J. Frank Lantz,
at Bloomington, Nebr., May 3. Miss Trehearne has been employed in a mercantile house in Bloomington
for several years, and has only been in Beaver City at times on visits.
Mr. Lantz is editor of the Telescope, published at Hildreth, Nebraska, where they will make their home
in the future."

At home cards were received here Monday announcing the marriage of Mr. Frank Lantz, editor of
the Hildreth Telescope, and Miss Florence Shear, a teacher in the public Schools of that place.
The union was solemnized at Bloomington last Sunday. Mr. Lantz is a successful editor and stands well
among his fellow men at Hildreth, while the bride is an accomplished young lady who has a host of friends
at Hildreth and other places where she has lived. She is a niece of Mrs. James Morrison of this place,
Mr. Lantz is now erecting a beautiful dwelling house at Hildreth for their future home, and until this
is completed they will board at a private house. We extend congratulations, Bro. Lantz, and wish you
a most happy and prosperous future."

Dr. Percival Lantz of Alaska, W. VA., is visiting in these parts and called yesterday to shake the paw
of the editor of the Daily News. Mr. Lantz is editor of the “Hildredth Telescope” a bright sheet
which scintillates with Lantz logic. Mr. Lantz has been away for 17 years and is spending his time
now visiting his brother.

" J. Frank Lantz, 87, for many years a newspaperman in Central Nebraska, died Friday at the Nebraska
died Friday at the home of his son in Hastings, where he was taken two weeks ago to be cared for.
Mr. Lantz was born in Preston County, West Virginia, February 16, 1867, the second son in a family of
eight. His childhood and boyhood differed little from those of the ordinary youngster of that time.
He attended school and worked in a printing office in his spare time.
When he was nineteen years of age the 'go West' fever became so strong that he started west,
arriving in Franklin in May 1886. After two years in the office of Mr. Crane he went to Colorado
to take up some Government land. Returning to Nebraska, he went to Hildreth in 1896,
bought the Hildreth Telescope, which he operated for twenty-five years.
In 1896 he was married to May Treahearne of Beaver City. To this union was born born one son, C. E.
Lantz, and a baby daughter who died in infancy. The death of the mother followed shortly afterward.
In 1906 he was married to Florence E. Shear, and to this union were born seven children.
About 1901 he was appointed postmaster and served for nineteen successive years. In 1921 he turned the
paper over to his son, who ran the paper for several years — making forty-four years the Telescope had
been in the Lantz family. In 1922 he bought the Republican City Ranger, which he operated for 25 years.
Mr. Lantz was civic minded, always interested in building for the welfare of the community.
His was an active life, always his family came first. He was a kind and loving husband and father.
He is survived by: his wife, Florence, four daughters, Virginia Booher of Naponee,
Jean O’Neill of Buffalo, N. Y., Marjorie Lantz of Atlanta, Ga., and Marian May of Aurora, Colo.,
four sons, C. E. Lantz of Holdrege, V. K. Lantz of Hastings, James F. Lantz, Jr. of Kansas City, Mo.,
and Richard Lantz of Savannah, Ga., sixteen grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Fred W. Field in Methodist Church at Hildreth
on Sunday afternoon, May 16, at 3:00. Music by Mrs. M. McAvoy and songs by Mrs. Fred Kolb and
Francis McAvoy. Pallbearers were H. A. Glenn, W. P. Schwartz, Irvin Schwartz, Onno Schmidt,
George Zobel, and Vinton Zobel. Burial was in the Hildreth Cemetery."
March 29, 1962 "This town and entire community was saddened the past week when word came of the death of Mrs. J. Frank Lantz, who resided here for many years. At the time of her death, she was living with her daughters, Virginia B3oher and Jean ONeill in Hawthrone, Calif. Funeral services conducted by Rev. Jerry Mclnnis were held at Hildreth on Sunday. Mrs. Haskell Waldo sang accompanied by Mrs. James Buttermore. All the children were able to attend the funeral. Friends extend sympathy to the bereaved children.
Florence Lantz Florence Shear was born at Bertrand, Nebraska, November 23, 1886,
and passed away at Hawthorne, California, March 21, 1962, at the age of 75 years.
She attended school in the Bertrand area and came to Hildreth as a public school teacher.
On May 27, 1906, she was united in marriage to J. Flank Lantz. Mrs. Lantz spent a majority of her
lifetime in the Hildreth, Franklin and Republican City area, where she took an active part in
music and church activities. She was an active member of the O. E. S. and a few years ago was the
recipient of a 50 year pin. In recent years, ill health had forced her to curtail active interest in
various activities. She was a member of the Republican City Methodist church.
Mr. Lantz preceded her in death on May 14, 1954.
Survivors include four daughters, Virginia Booher and Jean O'Neill of Hawthorne, California,
Marjorie Lantz, Atlanta, Georgia; and Marian May, Denver, Colorado; four sons, Clive, Holdrege,
Nebraska, Jim, Kansas City, Mo., Richard, Savannah, Georgia, and Virgil, Hastings, Nebraska;
one sister, Mrs. Fled Neubauer, Lingle, Wyoming; 16 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held March 25, 1962, at the Hildreth Methodist church.
Rev. Jerry Mclnnis officiated at the service, Mrs. James Buttermore was pianist, and Mrs. Haskell
Waldo sang. The O. E. S. had a service at the graveside. Burial was in the Hildreth Cemetery. "

"Clive Eliot Lantz was born on January 19, 1899, in Hildreth, Nebraska, to J. Frank and May Treherne
Lantz, and died July 29, 1968 in a local hospital in Holdrege, Nebraska. Mr. Lantz grew up in Hildreth,
and was graduated from Hildreth high School in 1916. He attended Doane College in Crete, Nebraska
for two years, and received his bachelor of arts degree from the Jniversity of Nebraska in 1921.
Following his graduation from college he returned to Hildreth, where he succeeded his father as
editor and publisher of the Hildreth Telescope. On August 15, 1929, he was married to Charlotte Strong
at Wilcox, Nebraska. To this union were born son Ronald and a daughter Barbara. Mr. Lantz was appointed
post master at Hildreth in 1941, and served until 1948, when he suffered a cerebral hemmorage,
and was forced to retire. The Lantz family then moved to Colorado, where they owned and operated
Lantz Lodge motel and coffee shop in Big Thompson Canyon. In 1952 they returned to Nebraska to
settle in Holdrege, where they purchased the Nelson Apartments on Sixth Street, and where Mr. Lantz
lived until his death. He is survived by his wife, Charlotte, son Ronald of Broomfield, Colorado,
daughter, Mrs. Barbara Allen of Storrs, Connecticut, four grandchildren, three brothers,
Virgil of Hastings, James of Kansas City, Mo., Richard of Savannah, Ga.,
four sisters, Mrs. Jean O’Neill of Hawthorne, Calif., Mrs. Virginia Booher of Torrence, Calif.,
Miss Marjorie Lantz of Atlanta, Ga., and Mrs. Marian May of Arvada, Colo,
Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church in Hildreth at 10 am Wednesday, July 31,
The Rev. Clarence Hall, pastor at Bethel Lutheran Church of Holdrege officiated.
Music was furnished by Charlotte Ortgiesen, Rose Jelden, George Warnken, and Fred Warnken,
accompanied by Mrs. Meredith Anderson, Pallbearers were George Zobel, W. P. Schwartz,
Robert Schwartz, Irvin Schwartz, Onno Schmidt, and L. D. Dinnis.
Interment was in the Hildreth Cemetery."
April 29, 1965 Franklin County, Nebraska " John B. Booher was born at Republican City
on September 10, 1907, and passed away near Republican City on April 14, 1965.
He grew to young manhood in the Republican City community and after graduation from high school
at that place in 1925, he encaged in farming neat Naponee.
In 1930 he was mated in marriage with Virginia Lantz and to this union three children were born:
James, Janet, and Robert. For twenty-five yean John was active in farming west of Naponee and later
was engaged in construction activities in this area. Survivors, in addition to his
immediate family, are five grandchildren: two sisters Elsie Hunter and Nelita Booher,
both of Alma, one brother, Davie Booher of Dallas, Tex., other relatives,
and many friends. Funeral services were held in Alma on Saturday April 17 at 2 o’clock,
with Rev. Phillip Bede, pastor of the First Methodist Church officiating.
Mrs. Haskell WalHo was soloist, accompanied by Mrs. James Buttermore.
Casketbearers were James B. Booher, Robert B. Booher, Davie W. Booher, Glen B. Hunter,
Haskell, Waldo, and Delvin Hunter. Burial was in the Republican City Cemetery."

Michael Lantz O’Neill, Sr., age 76 of Hemphill, Texas, died Thursday, January 26, 2017 at his residence.
He was born on June 20, 1940 in Hastings, Nebraska to James Carleton and Anna Jeannette Lantz O’Neill.
Mr. O’Neill was owner-operator of Frontier Park in the Pendleton Community and a U. S. Marines veteran serving in Vietnam. Mr. O’Neill had lived in Hemphill for over 10 years coming from California where he was the manager for the Bay Area Rapid Transit.
He is survived by sons: Michael O’Neill, Jr. and wife, Jenna of El Dorado Hills, California and Kelly O’Neill and wife, Honor, of Spokane, Washington; sister, Sandra O’Neill and grandchildren, Anabelle Rose O’Neill, Jack Parker O’Neill and William Michael O’Neill.
December 1960 Kansas City " Miss Janice O'Dell and Mr. James Lantz, jr., son of Mrs. James Lantz
of Hawthorne, Calif., were married November 26 at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Charles O'Dell in Liberty. The Rev. William Davidson of the Liberty Christian church
performed the ceremony. Miss Sharron O'Dell attended her sister as maid of honor.
The best man was Mr. Duncan McIntyre. After a reception, the couple left for a wedding trip to
New Orleans."
