"Rev. Howard Hammelmann was born in Sterling, Colorado on March 30, 1917, the second of seven children. His father, the late Rev. Karl Hammelmann, of Grossenmoor, Germany, came to the U.S. in 1911 to minister to the many German-Russian immigrants. This is how Karl met in Colorado and married Wilhemina Stutz, whose parents were Germans from Johannestal, Russia. Howard's youth was spent in the Midwest-Nebraska, Colorado, North & South Dakota."

"Ruth (Hammelmann) Poppe, 82, Blue Springs, died Saturday
June 28,2003, as a result of a stroke. Mrs. Poppe was born
May 5, 1921, in Bethune, Colo., to the Rev. Karl
and Wilhelmina (Stutz) Hammelmann. Following graduation
from Sacred Heart School of Nursing in Yankton, S.D.,
she worked at Sacred Heart Hospital. She married
Hans M. Poppe on Sept. 9,1942, at her father's church
in Windsor, Colo. Their first home was in Harrison, Ohio,
where her husband was an ordained minister in the
Congregational Church, later the United Church of Christ.
Together they served churches in Brighton, Ohio,
Russell Kan., Gorham, Kan., and Sioux Falls and
Mitchell S.D.
After her children were grown, she resumed her career in the field of nursing in Mitchell After retiring in 1983, they moved to Blue Springs, where they resided at Blue Springs Terrace, a UCC relation retirement community In 1992, she began systematically gathering and processing discarded linens ftom area motels and delivered them to Stepping Stones, Cancer Action and Restart. She received special recognition from Cancer Action for many hours of service. She was a lifelong member of foe PEO Sisterhood and a lifetime member of Stepping Stones. She was a member of Ebenezer United Church of Christ in Levasy.
She was preceded in death by a brother,
the Rev. Herbert Hammelmann, and a sister, Helene Kennedy.
Her survivors include her husband of 61 years,
the Rev. Dr. Hans Poppe; a daughter, Tams Binfield
and husband, Kent, Dallas; a son and daughter-in-law,
Mark and Linda Poppe, Sioux Falls; four grandchildren,
Kirste Mulholland and Dietrich, Kiira and Torsten Knabe;
two greatgrandchildren, Roan and Sophia Mulholland;
three brothers, the Rev. Howard Hammelmann,
John Hammelmann and Bill Hammelmann; and a sister,
Miriam Scherer.
Services will be ll a.m. Tuesday at Ebenezer United Church of Christ, Levasy;"

"Miriam V. Scherer, age 89, of Fond du Lac, died Sunday, September 11, 2016 at Grancare Nursing Home. She was born on January 28, 1927, the daughter of Karl and Wilhelmina Hammelmann. On April 28, 1950 she married Joseph C. Scherer. He preceded her in death on May 23, 2016.
SURVIVORS: two sons, Dr. Joel (Dr. Anna Maria V. Storniolo) Scherer of Carmel, IN, Jeffrey (Janet) Scherer of Waukegan, Il; grandchildren, Alexander Scherer of New Haven, CT, Peter Scherer of Atlanta, GA, Nicholas Scherer of Carmel, IN; one brother, Dr. William (Loretta) Hammelmann of Lincoln, NE; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Joseph; five brothers and sisters, Herbert, Howard, Helen, Ruth, and John.

"Jakob Gramm son of Christian and Christine (Strobel) Gramm was born 9 Jan 1885 in Dobriluck, S. Russia. He came to the U. S. with his parents in 1898. Here he was fiven a Christan upbringing and confirmed in the EV Lutheran Chruch. On 21 Aug 1911 he was married to Emma Stutz. This marriage was blessed with 4 children of which 2 died in infancy. He was a faithful member of our congregation. He was always ready to further God's kingdom. In his circle of acquaintances he was always courteous and was well-thought of for this reason. He was always strong and healthy until about the last 4 months when he developed heart trouble. He consulted a doctor after which he seemed to get better. But, the Lord had decided otherwise. He had severe pain the last 7 days of his life. His wife, relatives and friends cared for his as best they could. He longed for this Lord and rest. His yearning was soon granted. The Lord took him home on 26 June. He chose Heb. 1:21 and 2 hymns which the men's choir sang: "Nearer My God to Thee" and "What A Friend We Have in Jesus". He reached the age of 47 years, 5 months and 20 days. He is mourned by his wife, 2 children, his parents, 4 brothers, 1 sister and many relatives and friends. Pastor C. A. Allen spoke in English and Pastor John Hoelzer spoke in German. Interment was in the church cemetery. Bethune, Colorado. Chr. E. Maedche, Pastor"

LYDIA
Gottlieb Gramm 1891-1977 is buried in Bethune,
with Lydia (Stutz) Gramm 1893-1981.
"Mrs. Lydia Gramm, daughter of Fredrich and Maria (Balzar) Stutz was born Oct. 23, 1893, at Bethune, Colo. She departed this life in St. Joseph Hospital, Denver, Oct. 27, 1981, at the age of 88 years, and four days. Both her parents preceded her in death.
When she was four years old the family moved to Scotland, S.D., in a covered wagon, staying there a short time. They moved back again in a covered wagon, and made their home north of Bethune, known as the Settlement. Here she was to spend the rest of her life and make her home. On Nov. 10, 1916, she was united in marriage to Gottleib Gramm, at Sterling, Colo., by Rev. Karl Hemmelmann. To this union were born three sons and two daughters. Mourning her death are her children: Lloyd and wife Fern, Lawrence, Edmund and wife Esther, Elma and husband Ted Schaal, Esther and husband Mervin Corliss. Also nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Minnie Hammelmann of Lincoln, Neb., and one brother, William Stutz of Denver. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Gottleib, who passed away Aug. 20, 1977; and five sisters and one brother. They are: Lena Dobler, Maria Stahlecker, Ida Knodel, Fredrich Stutz, Emma Weiss, and Netti Stutz and Martha Schlichenmayer."
Elma Helen (Gramm) Schaal, lifelong Burlington resident, passed away on Friday, April 2, 2010 at St. Anthony Central Hospital in Denver after injuries she sustained in an automobile accident. She planned to celebrate her 87th birthday in May.
Elma was born on the family homestead in Kit Carson County, on May 16, 1923 to Gottlieb and Lydia (Stutz) Gramm. She was one of five children.
