William and Florence E. (Daggett) Gourd, 6 South 50 West


In 1910 Seibert precinct, Kit Carson County, William Gourd is farming, 47, born in England. He's been married sixteen years (his second marriage) to Elba 33 Iowa. Byron 15, Mable 14, Blanche 10, Theron 7, and Ethel 4 were born in Iowa. They're on the same page as Frederick Landau's and Calvin Landau's households.

William Gourd proved up two quarters in 22 and 23, 6S 50W in 1914.

Byron Gourd married Ethel R. Clair on December 14, 1914 in Kit Carson County, and they're back in Union County Iowa in 1920.

In 1920 William and "Florence E." are back in Adams County, Iowa, with Theron 16 and Ethel 13.

"William Gourd was born in Cornwall County, England, March 10, 1861 and died at his home in Prescott, January 17, 1929, at the age of 67 years, 10 months, and 7 days. He was baptized in the Church of England when a small child He came with his parents, William and Mary Ann Courd to America in 1867 and settled in Pennsylvania, later moving to Illinois in 1871. From there he moved to Adams County, Iowa where the remainder of his life was spent with the exception of five years in Colorado. In 1894 he was united in marriage to Florence Elba Dagger.
He is survived by his widow and six children, Mrs. L. E. Casey of Greenland, Arkansas, Bryon of Destinies, Iowa, Mrs. C. W. "Landay" and Mrs. J. N. Clair of Lafayette, Colorado, Theron of Corning, and Ethel who is at home. Also ten grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. T. W. Haviland of Corning, and two brothers, Richard of Corning and Matthew of Greenland, Arkansas."
William is buried in Corning, Iowa # 41350741.

Viola's mother "Florence Elba Daggett, daughter of Clark and Lucy Daggett, was born near Corning, Iowa on December 6, 1876 and passed away at the Rosary Hospital, November 22, 1957 at the age of 80 years, 11 months, and 16 days. On February 6, 1895, she was united in marriage to William Gourd, who preceded her in death, January 17, 1929. Their entire married life was spent in Adams County with the exception of five years on a homestead in Colorado.
To this union five children were born. One son, Theron, passed away at Idledale, Colorado in 1942. She is survived by one son, Byron Gourd of Des Moines, 3 daughters, Mabel Landau and Blanche Clair of Longmont, Colorado, and Ethel Stillinger of Brooks. Also one Step daughter, Mrs. Edna Casey of West Fork, Arkansas. She is also survived by one sister, Perl Johnson of Corning, 10 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
Mrs. Gourd lived in Prescott for 31 years and has retained her membership to the Methodist Church there. She moved to Brooks in 1950 to be near her daughter. She spent her life in service for others. For many years she helped care for the sick in Prescott and was always on hand to help all of her family. Her most outstanding virtue was her love for children and especially her many grandchildren.
Funeral services were held from the Boyd Roland Company Funeral Home, Sunday, November 24, at 2:30 p.m., conducted by Joe Cook. Mrs. Blanche Lund was vocalist accompanied by Mrs. Kathleen Cook. Pall bearers were her grandsons, Weldon Gourd, Gene Gourd, Orville Gourd, Clyde Landau, Ray Clair, and Max Stillinger.

Ida Blanch Gourd, 15, married Jasper Minion Clair in Corning Iowa on October 1, 1914.
They're in Adams County, Iowa in 1920, and in 1930 are in Lafayette Colorado. Jasper is 37, Blanche 30. Victor 15 and Arthur 13 were born in Colorado, Raymond i10 in Iowa.

Jasper N. Clair 1892-1962 is buried in Longmont # 60878952, with Blanche 1899-1988 # 60878951.
(Jasper's parents John 1852-1929 and Sarah (Pike) Clair 1854-1932 are buried in Kirk, Colorado.)

Victor was born January 28, 1915 in Tuttle Colorado, dying September 4, 1988.
He's buried in Longmont # 60878954, with Mary Katherine Clair 1919-2006.

Arthur William Clair was born at Tuttle, Colorado October 21, 1916, registering for WWII at Lafayette, wife Rose Elizabeth Clair. He was working for Rocky Mountain Fuel Company.
He's buried in Lafayette 1916-1978 # 66282087, with Rose (Banyai) Clair 1917-2002.

Theron Raymond Clair was born at Corning Iowa on December 14, 1920, dying March 4, 1996.

MABLE

Calvin W. Landau, 28, married Mable V. Gourd on June 18, 1913 in Kit Carson County.

1917 Corning Iowa "Mrs. C. W. Landau, from near Denver, Colo., arrived in Corning Monday to visit relatives for a time. Mrs. Landau is a daughter of Wm. Gourd, and will be remembered as Miss Mabel Gourd. She came at this time on account of the illness of her brother, Theron Gourd, who has pneumonia."

1919 Corning "Mrs. Claire Stratton, of Stratton, Colo., and Mrs. C. W. Landau, of Lafayette, Colo., are expected in this vicinity to spend the holidays with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Gourd, and other relatives. A family reunion will be enjoyed at the Gourd home."

1930 Corning "On Wednesday of last week Mr. and Mrs. Roy Richardson entertained a number of young people to dinner in honor of Miss Florence Landau of Lafayette. Colorado. In the afternoon games of various kinds were stayed and one that was really enjoyed most was a girls' base ball game."

1948 Corning Iowa "Mable Landau of Lyons Colorado and sons are visiting her mother Mrs. Elba Gourd and other relatives. Sunday Mrs. Gourd, Mable and Don Gourd went to Des Moines where they visited in the Byron Gourd home."

1956 Corning Iowa "On Wednesday, March 21, Mable Landau received a telegram telling of the death of her friend, Ed Me- Col °- Mr - v n , ' - - «- Ivan Stillinger.
Mrs. Elba Gourd and Mrs. Landau left immediately for Colorado, where they attended the funeral on Friday and returned home Sunday. Mrs. Clair of Longmont, Colo., who is another sister of Mrs. Stillinger, accompanied them home. She and Mrs. Landau will return to Colorado after."

1961 Corning "Mrs. Mable Landau and Mr. and Mrs Ivan Stillinger enjoyed having supper Thursday evening with Mrs Pearl Johnson and the Tom Reed family in Corning.

1965 "A reception for Mr. and Mrs. Max Stillinger was held at the Ivan Stillinger home Saturday evening. Those present were the Larry Martz family of Des Moines, Mr. and Mrs. Joye Heatherington of Prescott, Mrs, Mabel Landau and Mrs. Clyde Landau from Colorado, Mr. and Mrs. Delmar Lovig and girls, Mr. and Mrs. Dick Murdock, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Murdoch Mr. and Mrs. Bi11 Walter and son, the Clyde, Fred and Ernie Stillinger families, June Mitchell and the honored guests, Mr. and Mrs. Max Stillinger,"
