"Bertha Mae Sweet was born to Benajah C. and Ellen S. Thompson
on Dec. 31, 1889 at Mankato, Ks., and departed this life January 17, 1973 in Burlington. She was united in marriage to
Clark A. Sweet May 3, 1914 in Vona.
Mr. Sweet preceded his wife in death in 1933. Also, Bertha was preceded in death by a daughter Wanda Kemper,and two sons Maurice L. and Marshall C. She is survived by three sons,Melvin C.,Stratton; George R.,Fort Worth,Tx;and Kenneth W.,Denver.Also a brother Daniel Maurice,Calif;and a daughter,Ellen Edwina Kemper, Fort Worth,Tx; 19 grandchildren and 39 great grandchildren.Funeral services were conducted in the Stratton Church of God Jan. 20 with
Rev. Wilbert R. Nelson, Pastor, officiating. Singers were
Theda Nelson and Mabel Scheierman. Organist was Marilyn
Paintin. Pallbearers were LeRoy Kemper, Arthur Kemper,
Earl Kemper, Tim Kemper and Robert Hargis. Honorary pallbearers were Ed Overlease, Merle Ford,
Tom Burian, Lyle Garner, Dale Courtwright and Kenneth Scheierman. Burial was made in the Vona Cemetery.
