Edward E. and Violet E. Garnhart, 6 South 47 West



Jared R. King married Charity Ruder in Rush County, Indiana on November 7, 1839. The ceremony was performed by the Baptist minister Benjamin Jones.


In 1850 Rush County, Indiana, Jared R., and Clarissa King are both 32, with Martin V. B. 10 anbd Armstead 8.

Sarah E. Johnson married Jared R. King in Boone County, Indiana.

In 1860 Boone County, Indiana, Jared is 41, Sarah E. 22, Martin V. B. 20, Armstead 18, and Hanna J. 8.
In 1870 Boone County, Indiana, Jered is 51, Sarah E. 32, Hanah J. 18, Mary M 6, William A. 4, and Grandvill R. 2.


In 1880 Coffey County, Kansas, Jerod R. King is farming, 60, Sarah E. 42, mary M. 16, William 14, Elley 12, EFFIE 8, and Lillie 6.

FindaGrave # 34962205 has an Elizabeth ? King dying January 21, 1887 buried in Coffeyville, Montgomery County, Kansas. Martha Ann married William Wilcox, then Joseph B. Hall, and is buried in Baker City, Oregon 1878-1946 # 58193725.
Another sister Hannah Jane (King) Scott 1851-1896 is buried in Independence, Missouri # 18201471, with Francis Marion Scott 1852-1939.

Edward Garnhart is in Jackson County, Missouri in 1880, 14, with parents James W. 38 and Lucy (Jerusha) 32. Mary E. is 12, and Leona 2.
Jerusha 1846-1914 is buried in Lafayette County, Missouri # 55397357, with James W. 1841-1923 # 55397202. When James died in 1923, only Edward 1865 and Mary E. 1868 were living.
Edward E. Garnhart and Violet E. King, age 16, married in Independence, Missouri on May 22, 1888.

In 1900 Lafayette County, Missouri, Edward is farming, born Nov 1865 married twelve years to Violet Nov 1872, with George 10, Gracie G. 8, James W. 6, Pear 3,a dn Sarah T. 1, all born in MIssouri. Violet's mother Sarah E. King born May 1838 in Indiana is with them.

In 1910 Colorado Springs, Edward is farming, 44, Violet 38, Grover 20, married oto Hulda 16 born in Kanss. Grace is 18, james 16, Pearl 13, Sarah 11, Elliott E. 8, Gilbert 5, and all born in MIssouri, and Ella R. 1 born in Colorado.

Edward 1865-1913 is buried in Vona Colorado # 95331125.
So is Elliott E. Garnhard 1901-1915 # 95331166.

Violet, widow of Edward, proved up two quarters in sections 29 and 30, 6 South, 47W in 1917.


Violet proved up another two quarters in sections 19, 29 and 30, 6S 47W in 1920.

Pearl L. Garnhart married Marshall Ross Oliver on July 13, 1918, recorded in Kit arson County.

In 1920 Kit Carson County, Violet 47 and Gilbert G. 14 have no occupations. With them are Ross M. Oliver 24 an Pearl L. 23
In 1930 Natrona County, Wyoming, Violet is widowed, 58, Gilbert 25, Ella R. is 20, and Lois A. 18, both born in Colorado.
None of the four have occupations.

In 1940 Natrona County, Violet 68 is living with Gilbert 35. Ella R. 31 is now married to Fred Samuel Gray 43 born in Tennessee.
Gilbert and Fred work at a gasoline plant.

Violet E. Garnhart 1872-1955 is buried in Pueblo # 144294891.

George G. Garnhart, 21, married Hulda A. Stevens in Colorado Springs March 22, 1910.
One tree said Hulda was in Otero County in 1910. She might be related to the Mary R. Stevens who married Henry F. Garnhart of Navilla Kansasm, who married iJuly 1897, according to the Goodland Kansas newspaper.

In 1940 Limon, George is a railroad engineer, 50, with Hulda A. born in Kansas. Mary is 28, William 23, George G. 21, HHudnik A. is 19, Karl K. 15, James 13, Paul 12, and Robert J. 9., all kids born in Colorado.

George Grover Garnhart registered for WWII in Limon, Colorado, born at Blue Springs, Missouri July 18, 1890, working for the C R I P Railroad, with Hulda H. Garnhart his reference.

George is buried in Limon 1889-1972 # 78083241. So is Huldah A. 1893-1957 # 78083243.
Karl (Red) was born on November 12, 1924 in Limon, Colorado to Grover and Huldah (Stevens) Garnhart and passed away on April 5, 2007. Red was one of nine siblings, all of which preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Alice R.: his son Kevin and his wife Theresa and their two sons, Daniel and Mathew; his son Kris and his wife Andrea and their two children, Kristen and Andrew; his daughter Kim and her husband Robert and their children, Ian, Emily, and Alison; and his daughter Kelly. He is also survived by three sisters-in-law, Mary Garnhart, Alice M. Garnhart, and Marie Garnhart. Red worked in maintenance and retired in 1989. He was loved very much by his family and will be missed dearly. A celebration of his life will be held on Wednesday, April 11 at 10:00am at St. Paul's United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or St. Paul's United Methodist Church.

Sarah Frances (Fran, Billie, Meme) Hyde, 93, of Parker, CO passed away January 31, 2007. Fran was born August 14, 1913 north of Vona, CO to Grover and Hulda (Stevens) Garnhart, one of nine children. Fran was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Ben, sister, Mary, brothers; James, Pete, Bobby, Fred, George and Bill, brother-in-law Paul Hyde and sister-in-laws; Loretta, Beulah, Mina and Nadine. Fran is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Debbie and Larry Mangus of Burlington, brother Carl (Red) and wife Alice of Colorado Springs, sisters-in-law Marie of Arvada, Mary of Limon and Alice of Colorado Springs. Fran is also survived by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; Michelle and husband Jerome Merlau and their daughters, Emily and Sydney of Cedar Hill, TX, Michaela Meyers of Parker, Lori and husband Keith Schwendeman and children Dillon and Cole of Lakewood, Michael and wife Audra Mangus and children, Meghan, Kaylee and Keenan of Larkspur, and Jennifer and husband Ross Butchart and daughter Leiana of Lakewood. Fran will be missed by her numerous nieces and nephews and many friends and neighbors. Fran grew up in Vona and Limon where she graduated from Limon Union High School in 1931. She sang in all the choirs at the school and in the First Baptist Church of Limon where she was a long time member. Fran also sang on the radio as part of Brick and Billie with her sister Mary. Music was a large and happy part of her life. Fran worked at the Pueblo Army Depot (PAD) during WWII as a hostess in the officer's cafeteria. After the war Ben and Fran returned to Limon where Fran lived until 1970. She returned to Pueblo after her second marriage to Ben in November 1970 and lived there until 1996 when she moved to Parker due to Ben's failing health and to be close to her daughter, Debbie and son-in-law, Larry. At that time her sister Mary also moved to Parker to live with Ben and Fran. Fran was involved as Mom of the Bethel of the Jobe's Daughters Bethel of Pueblo and the First Baptist Church of Pueblo. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, crocheting and many other crafts. Fran loved being with her family and friends. After Ben's death Fran took care of her sister, Mary until Mary's death. Fran then moved to the Victorian House Assisted Living where she resided until her death. A Memorial service will be held for Fran on Saturday, February 10, 2007 at Life in Christ church in Limon, CO at 11:00 A.M. Interment will be in Pueblo at a later date.


Lois Alma Garnhart was born in 1911 at "Lyman" - probably Limon, Colorado to Edward Ernest Garnhart and Violet Effie King, marrying Clarence Alfred Cooke in Billings, Montana May 31, 1932.
Lois is buried in Powell, Wyoming 1911-1996 # 73284011, with Clarence 1900-1987.

Ella R. Gray is buried in Pueblo 1908-2003 # 64686246.
So is Fred S. Gray 1897-1948 # 64686229 "Tennessee Cpl 144th Infantry 36 Division World War I."

Fred's mother Eliza Catherine Gray, born January 3, 1858 in Roane County Tennessee to Elihu Smith and Barbara Tudor, both of Tennessee, was in Fannin County Texas in 1900 - Fred was with her. Eliza died June 25, 1946 in Dallas, to be buried in Laurel Land cemetery.



Pearl L. Oliver 1896-1983 # 43036003 and Marshall R. Oliver 1895-1978 3 43035992 are buried in Pueblo.


1902 "John Hobbs attended the dinner given in the northwest part of the county in honor of John Garnhart last Sunday."
James William Garnhart of Vona married Ruth May Eldred of Vona on February 17, 1915 in Burlington.
Ruth May was the sister of F. Georgia (Eldred) Simmons of Vona.
Gwyneth 1925-1930 was the daughter killed by a gas leak # 141071356.

Wilhemene Trahern was born on November 14, 1917 in Seibert, Colo. and died on Monday July 21, 2008 at her home in Lamar with her family by her side. Mrs. Trahern was preceded in death by her father and mother, J.W. and Ruthe May Garnhart both of Pueblo; by her husband, Ora L. Trahern of Lamar on March 20, 2007; by one daughter, Judy Marinac of Lamar on January 23, 2003; and by two sisters, Floris Sutphin of Lamar and Gynuth Garnhart of Pueblo. Mrs. Trahern is survived by two daughters, Patricia (Max) Pflughoft of Hysham, Mt.; and Betty Trahern (Manuel Rincon) of LaVeta, Colo.; by one son-in-law, Mike Marinac of Lamar; by twelve grandchildren to include, Mitchell Camp of Boulder, Colo. and Shaylene (Marvin) Rosencrans of Littleton, Colo.; by fourteen great grandchildren; and by two sisters, Adair Simmons of Modesto, Calif.; and Faye Johnson of Cottonwood, Ariz. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and a host of friends.

James William Garnhart 1894-1974 is buried in Pueblo, with spouses Ruth Mae (Eldred) Garnhart 1895-1930 buried with an infant daughter - a gas leak -and Florence 1898-1998 buried with James.

My grandfather was Strother L. Garnhart Sr.
I have heard of Grover mentioned in our family. Strother was from Lexington, Mo. and moved to the Pueblo, Colorado area around 1925. If you have any info for me it would be greatly appreciated Rohn Garnhart

Strother J. Garnhart married Velma Elliott on March 4, 1937, recorded in Otero County, Colorado.


Strother 1889-1970 is buried in Pueblo # 91346014.
