Orly A. and Effie (Powell) Hafer, 10 South 42 West



Orley was born about 1874 in Ohio to Thomas and Nancy J. Hafer.

Effie, 19, born in Nebraska to Francis Powell and Henrietta Coleman, married Orley A. Hafer on Feb 25, 1903 in Diller, Nebraska.

Effie was in Jefferson County, Nebraska in 1885, 1, with Francis 39 and Ella 30. Oleta is 4.
(Oleeta married an Adams, and in 1910 Ellis County, Oklahoma is 29, with Joseph L. Adams 33. Marie G. is 11, Francis E. 8, and Hazel A. 6.
They're back in Jefferson County, Nebraska in 1920, Joseph 42, Oleeta 39, Frank E. 18, and Hazel A. 15.
Oleeta then married a Roach, and is in Wichita, Kansas in 1940, age 59, with John Roach 68.

John S. Roach died in Wichita in 1943, and is buried there # 132463674, with his previous wife Mary 1861-1930 # 132463675.

Oleeta died in Los Angeles County Nov 5, 1954. She's buried in Westminster, California # 98694828.
Joseph L. Adams 1877-1928 is buried in South Haven, Kansas.)

O. A. Hafer passed away at Colorado General hospital in Denver Saturday June 1, 1929, where he had been under a physician's care for seven weeks. The direct cause of death was enlargement of the heart resulting from an illness of several years duration. The bodv was shipped to Steamboat Springs Tuesday for burial in the Steamboat cemetery under the direction of A. W. Heyer. Funeral services were conducted at the Methodist church Wednesday afternoon with the I. O. O. F. in charge. The members of the lodge were in attendance wearing official regalia. Rev. G. E. Kitchen spoke comforting and kind words in a brief sermon. Safe in the Arms of Jesus and When the Roll Is Called Up Yonder were sung by Mrs. Clay Shaw, Mrs. Hoyt Shaw, Mrs. Sam Stevens and Mrs. Claude Beverly. Deane Wither played the piano accompaniment. Pall bearers were Henry Etzler, George McCoy, George Abbott, Elmer Price, O. R. West and John Page. Flowers in profusion covered the casket and were placed about the chancel rail. Many friends of the Hafer family came from the country to attend the funeral.
A son, Lemoine Hafer of Honeywell Kans., and a daughter, Mrs. Lawrence Ruddell of Burlington, Colo., came to Steamboat to attend the funeral. The son will remain with Mrs. Hafer to continue the farm work at the A B Noyce ranch in Twentymile park where the family resides.
Mr. Hafer is survived by his wife and nine children, Elbert, Lemoine, Roland, Ray and Jay who are twins, Mrs. Lawrence Rudell, Alpha Jane, Iola and Elizabeth: his parents, Mr. and Mr. Thomas Hafer, and two sisters, Mrs. Sarah Saunders and Mrs. Nervie Crosby of Ohio. One daughter died in infancy.
Orley A. Hafer was born in Brown county, Ohio. September 28, 1873. He went to Nebraska in 1899 and there married Miss Effie Powell of Diller, Nebr., February 25, 1903.
The Hafers lived at Burlington, Colo., until a year ago when they moved to Routt county and located on the Noyce ranch. Elbert Hafer and family live at Milner.
Mr. Hafer was a member of the Old Fellows lodge of Steamboat Springs and a member of the Church of Christ of Burlington, Colo. He and his family attended the Methodist church in Steamboat Springs. He was a devoted husband and loving father and his passing is an irreparable loss to his family.

August 23, 1929 Steamboat Springs "Mrs. O. A. Hafer returned home Saturday from the Steamboat hosital, where she underwent an operation three weeks ago.
Lemoine Hafer returned Saturday night from Burlington, where he had taken his two sisters, Jane and Iola, and his twin brothers, Ray and Jay. The children will enter school there the first of September. Lemoine was accompanied back by William Bell, who will work here this fall."

In 1930 Burlington, next to daughter Loraine Ruddell, Effie Hafer, widowed, 46, born in Nebraska, a cafe cook, with Rolland H. 19 doing odd jobs, born in Oklahoma. Alpha is 17, born in Missouri, Ray and Jay 14 born in Oklahoma, Iola 12 and Elizabeth M. 6 both born in Nebraska.
Effie Hafer, born October 12, 1883, mother's maiden name Coleman, died September 28, 1961 in Los ANgeles County.
Effie is buried in Westminster, Orange County, California # 94687538.

ELBERT

In 1920 Burlington, Colorado, Elbert P. Hofer is a carpenter, 26, with Alvina A. 22, Betty R. 4,a nd Virginia M. 1.

Elbert Powell Hafer, born Jan 27, 1904 at Diller, Nebraska, died in Los Angeles County May 22, 1961.
Alvina Anna Hafer, born July 22, 1907 in Nebraska to father Pingel and mother Wolters, died January 18, 1992 in Fresno.

ALVINA'S FATHER WHO DIED IN BURLINGTON


January 19, 1953 Beatrice, Nebraska "William Henry Pingel, son of Hans and Mary Pingel, was born in 1874, at Ki.el, Wisc., where he was baptized, and confirmed in the Reformed Church at the age of 15 years. In early manhood, in the year 1890 he came with his mother and step-father to Harbine, Neb., where they settled on a farm. On April 18, 1900 he was united in marriage to Miss Anna Walters. To this union eight children, four sons and four daughters were born, one son and one daughter ..
Mr. Pingle was received as a member of Hope Church at Harbine in the year 1901, and remained a member of the church during the many years that he lived here. He was engaged in farming near Harbine until 1946, when he and Mrs. Pingel moved to Harbine.
On April 18, 1950, Mr. and Mrs. Pingel observed their golden wedding anniversary in their home in Harbine. On October 4 of this year they gave up their home In Harbine, and went to Kanorado, Kan., to make their home with their daughter, Mrs. Elmer Fasse. After a short illness Mr. Pingel passed away at the Memorial Hospital in Burlington, Colo., on December 26, 1952, at 9:30 p. m., having reached the age of 78 years. 5 months and 4 days.
He leaves: his wife: six children, Mr. Edwin Pingel of Steele City, Mrs. Elfrieda Fasse of Kanorado. Kan., Mrs. Alvina Hafer of El Monte, Cal., Mrs. Hilda Stahl of Harbine, Mr. William Pingel Jr.. of Salt Lake City, Utah, Mr. Arnold Pingel of Emmet, Ida.; three sisters, Mrs. Tillie Riemer of Milwaukee. Wise., Mrs. Minnie Arpke of Beatrice. Mrs. Hulda Dyer of Lincoln; two brothers, Mr. Herman Pingel of Jamestown, N. D., Mrs. Lou pj nRe i???? of Beatrice; fifteen grandchildren; nine great- grandchildren and a large number of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted at the funeral home at Diller,"



MILDRED

Lawrence A. Ruddelland Mildred L. Hafer married in Cheyenne County, Colorado on Septemeber 10, 1927.

Lawrence is a highway laborer in Kit Carson County in 1930, 20, with Larene M. 21 born in Oklahoma.
LEMOINE

Lemoine Holten Hafer 1906-1965 is buried in Denver # 20638734, with Rachel 1906-1965.

IOLA

Iola R. Hafer and Delmar Callaway married in Kit Carson County on March 25, 1936.
In 1940 Delmar is a grocery clerk in Los Angeles, 26, with Iola 21, both born in Nebraska. Donald D. 2 was born in California, James Ray i1 in Washington.

Iola R. Callaway, born June 3, 1918, died April 15, 1999, last residence Oceanside, California.

JAY

Jay Hafer and Esther Kukuk, both of Burlington, married there January 5, 1936. Her mother Effie Hafer and E.E. Kukuk were witnesses.
(Otto Kukuk had proved up two quarters in sections 29 and 32, 10S 42W in 1913.)

In 1940 Enid Oklahoma, Jay Hafer is an oil geophysicist, 24, Esther 22 born in Illinois. Both were in BUrlington Colorado in 1935. Delmar 3 and Ronald 1 were born in Colorado.

1951 Steamboat Springs "Mr. and Mrs. Jay Hafer and two sons of Englewood spent Friday at the Appel home. Jay with his parents lived on the A. B. Noyce Ranch for two years, 20 years ago. Jay also visited the Eddy schoolhouse where he and his twin brother Ray attended school."

Jay Hafer 1916-2008 is buried in Thornton, Colorado # 45151263, with Esther 1916-2015.

RAY

Ray enlisted as a private on April 2, 1943 in Los Angeles, born about 1916 in Oklahoma, married.

ROLLAND

ALPHA

Alpha Jane Hafer was born May 29, 1913 in Missouri, dying as Merchant on April 14, 1997 in Los Angeles County.
